I visited the Happo pond in the summer. First taking the gondolas, then two lifts to the height of 1,800 meters then trekking to the pond. It took about 90-120 minutes. Good exercise for any ages. There are few good coffee shops and restaurants at...More

We did the hike to Happo Pond on a perfect autumn's day and we're rewarded with breathtaking views along the way. Take the Adam gondola at Happo then up 2 chairlifts (2700 yen for return ticket) to the hike start point. It took us 1...More

One hour hike up Mount Hakone-sanzen from ski lifts. Spectacular views. Amazing when one climbs above the clouds. Spectacular view of the reflections from the pond of the mountain peaks.

This pond sits atop of Mt. Happo. It can be accessed from a set of lifts and a two-hour walk. Preparing your own hiking poles is recommended. The weather can change rapidly, so bring a raincoat. In mid-June, some snow can still be seen, and...More

Take the gondola, and two chair lifts up and you and then climb for a little over an hour, and you get to sit and see amazing views.

If your in good shape and are willing to break a sweat I would highly recommend the hiking trail up to Mt. Karamatsu-Dake summit. The hike up there would take you about two and a half hours walking at a fairly high pace but when...More

After the gondola and lifts of Happo-one, you have to walk to the lake for 1.5 hours one way. The beginning of the trekking trail is easy, but the second half is a long way of rocky, steep track. Remember to prepare your trekking poles...More

Drove to the top chairlift, it would have been an expensive excursion to get the chairlift all the way and while the hike was enjoyable for a non-hiker, the pond is a big disappointment. It is a hole in the ground! You think, "this can`t...More

Did the photographer lie on his back and shoot one cm above the water to get the famous shot as above? The walk is great and quite a challenge to the average Sunday adventurer but when you get to the pond you think `That can`t...More
