We may have visited at the wrong time, not really sure. Early afternoon on Jan 3. Anyhow, nothing was open and there was no one around. Despite that, the town is lovely and was blanketed in snow which was beautiful. A note - take cash...More

During fall, after typhoon, the village which is former post station is easy life strolling/edo time village , museum of folklore /the restaurant is limited : mostly ramen- the changing foliages is picturesque.

The street is loaded with old traditional buildings. Few sell locally made items. Few good Japanese style restaurants are very good as well. Very impressive to visit this area. The railway maybe the best way to get here. Other way will be via a tour...More

Sleepy resort town in the Kiso Valley. The foot-Onsen, feudal check point, river and governors home are not to be missed. In mid july there is a local festival.
