Take the Sounkyo Ropeway up the mountain and you'll be rewarded by the beautiful views. After reaching the top, take a short walk and you'll be able to take another ropeway (the same type as those taken at a ski resort) and you'll be rewarded...More

We visited late August. Wild flowers have already bloomed and leaves have not change color but it was still beautiful and lush everywhere. Our hiking trip started with the ropeway up from Kurodake, crossed Mt Hokkai and Summited Mt Asahi, the tallest mountain in Hokkaido....More

Autumn colored forests, snow covered mountain peaks... This was a perfect trip for a few days of hiking. Pity that we were ambushed by a snow blizzard (in September) and could not continue the trip.

There are actually two rope-ways up this mountain, one from the Sounkyo Gorge side and the other one from Tennokyo Ropeway. We went up from the Tennokyo side, after staying a local ryokan the night before. The cost is from memory 2900 yen both ways,...More

This is the largest national park in Japan. It's lush and verdant and if you are in the area you must not miss it. I didn't have time to hike through the trails but I took the cable car to the top and then the...More

In the month of July it was a lot of mist in the valley of Sounkyo. By taking the gondola it was raining a bit. By taking the small lift it was raining ... But after an hour climb you are at the big caldera...More

This is a unique, once in a lifetime, national park hiking area. The wildness of the area is not to be underestimated, but hiking on top is stunning. If you are careful planning and have good fortune with the weather, the experience is genuinely awesome....More
