Museum Closed

Arrived today having read on Trip Adviser that the museum was open today. On arrival opening times indicated on door and signs museum was open. Waited 20 mins no sign of anyone or answer to telephone calls.
Would be massive help if websites were updated to reflect actual opening times.
This experience fisaiyo put it lightly

Wonderful curator - brought my family history to life

Went to Alyth to "find" my roots. It was suggested to check out the local museum. Not only is the museum well done, but the curator out-did himself in searching local records for my ancestry. I cannot thank him enough!

We visited on Friday and it was well worth the visit. The member of staff was extremely knowledgeable and was more than willing to take time to chat about the exhibits and the local area. Small museum but big in stature.

What an interesting place to visit

Plenty to see and your host has a wealth of knowledge on all matters within the museum. There is much to learn as well about the Cateran Common Wealth and 100 Objects which sit on or just off the Cateran Trail.

A touch of history

We had a drive out to Alyth in the early afternoon specially to visit this little museum, as the last time we visited it was closed, so we checked the opening days and hours first this time!
Very glad we made the effort to return, because although the museum is fairly small (spread over two floors) we did find a lot of interesting information/exhibits.
The curator was very pleasant, very knowledgeable, and interesting to talk to. I was especially interested in the floods of Alyth which happened 2 years ago and he was able to tell me a lot about what happened and how it affected the village. There are a few photographs in the museum about the floods. There is also a marker inside the museum itself showing how far up the water came during the flooding.
Museum is clean, modern and has an assortment of IT equipment.
Another exhibit that was of great interest to me was the 'drunks cart' up the stairs!
Some travellers may be interested to know that the museum is fitted with stair lifts.
We really enjoyed our afternoon visit and would recommend to those interested in a bit of local history.

USP? The photo collection
May 2016 • Couples
Charming little museum with two rooms on two floors which chronicles the life of. The town and surrounding countryside. Everything you ever wanted to know about fruit picking.

The real piece de resistance is a collection of photos from an old photograper's shop, covering over a hundred years. Put aside more time than you normally would for a two room museum.

Wee gem of a museum

This is a most interesting small museum focussing on local history. The curator was very knowledgeable and the wealth of photographs are an excellent 'snapshot' of social history.
