this is another spot sacred to the buddhist people in Sri Lanka. It is an important place of worship because of its historicval significance, and the legends woven around the temple. Must observe modest dress and it is bare feet in the temple premises.

This is a nice Buddha temple in Tissamaharama and even though there are so many buddhist temples in srilanka i feel each is individually different and beautiful in different ways

This temple is of deep historical, cultural and religious significance. A must visit. Traditionally all those travelling to kataragama first worship at Tissamaharamaya... It is said that a tooth relic as well as a forehead bone relic of Lord buddha was placed here.

Despite being a national heritage and Buddhist temple, there's couple of kohomba trees next to the stupa, which rumored to have tasteless leaves. Well, not sure if its true. But visiting at night and staying a while next to the stupa is a soul touching...More
