Recommending this site for everyone. Stopping statues, beating rocks and childrens toys can be found from here. Sad, but important place to remember and make sure nothing like this will never happen again. The site has big statues, like 'mother', 'exhausted', 'solidarity' etc. There is...More

This is a unique site as there are very few people here. It provides a different take on the place from the Soviet perspective focusing on Soviet lives lost. The Soviet era statues are amazing and the beat of the metronome is eerie. We hired...More

It's an excellent destination if you want to develop better understanding of history in this part of the world. The statues were amazingly done, including the exhibit hall, however they were in the process of renovation so we didn't see the complete exhibit.

This is a tasteful tribute to the fate of those who lost their liberty, and in many cases their lives, at this and similar Nazi concentration camps. The architecture is imposing, but not bombastic, being nicely integrated with the wooded surroundings. There are some huge...More

frightening but actual picture of the nazi prison can be seen in this memorial trying to understand why it actually happened is another question by itself

I drove out here in early evening. The place was fairly easy to drive too but I can imagine it would be a little trickier via public transport as it is in the middle of the forest. There isn't lots at the site, but that...More

I made my way out to this memorial by train from central station getting off at Salaspils. There is a helpful tourist office opposite the station who told me how to get to the memorial. There is a bus stop outside and you take the...More

The peaceful setting and well maintained grounds belie the fact that this was a concentration camp where many people died. Although the barracks may be long gone, the bunker symbolically facing heavenward and the chilling heat beat heard throughout, ensure that the unthinkable suffering that...More

As we were staying a guesthouse close by we decided to visit the memorial. There they were the massive stone figures standing amongst the sounds of beating heart. Stood a moment in silence.
