It’s a tricky drive down the valley to the car park, but it’s worth it. This place is like paradise. Crystal clear water with waterfalls. There are natural platforms to jump into the lagoons, a 10 meter, 13 meter and 16 meter diving platform to dive or jump into the lagoons. You can follow the river through 3 more lagoons, you have to swim across each one and finally you come to a waterfall. Absolutely amazing.

Excellent experience

A fabulous way to spend a day - make sure you travel light as to get to the waterfall at the end, and let's face it, that has to be your goal, you need to swim small sections of the river. But boy is it worth it. Absolutey excellent day - and if you're up for it, jumping off the rocks into the pool is just exhillerating.

Cascade de Rio Verbe
Oct 2018 • Couples
Fancied a trip away from the beach, getting close to nature and breath the air from the mountains. Read the reviews about the yellow hut and calling the man at Juntas de la Rios to get entry but decided to drive 4 miles further, past Mirador de la Cabres Montes, to the entrance to the Natural Park for Rios Verde. What a great decision that was. Totally had the place to ourselves until late afternoon. Absolute paradise. No entry fee, just a long rough ride down to several parking places until you can drive no further. Then a 90 mins walking which is sign posted all the way, for the park to reveal the beautiful green lagoons of fresh flowing water with the powerful cascade of Rio Verde blasting from above. Loved it! Hope you do as well. P.S. An Ibex came and watched from above. Added bonus!

Paradise

Not easy to find and not easy to get to, but definitely worth the effort. We had an incredible afternoon walking, swimming and jumping off the rocks into crystal clear water. Amazing scenery. Our route involved a steep drive on a thin, dusty, uneven track so both the drive and the activity is only for the adventurous (there may be other, more accessible routes that I did not experience and that I’m not aware of).

Wonderful peaceful place

Hidden in the mountains between Granada and Almunecar, wonderful green water pools, very few people there. Great place to enjoy relaxing dives!

Amazing day out

This is a fantastic spot - the scenery is a amazing even before you jump in the pools. The climb and swim along the gorge to the waterfall at the end would be doable by anyone with an average level of strength, agility and swimming ability, old or young.

The entrance is 5km north of Otívar on the road to Granada (around the 42km mark on the A-4050). The cabin was staffed and the gates open when we arrived about 10am. The charge is €5 per person plus €5 for the vehicle. The entrance shows on Google Maps as Parking Rio Verde and the waterfalls themselves are marked as Junta de los Rios.

The entrance is fairly high up in the mountains and you then have to drive down a steep and narrow single track dirt road to get to the gorge. I wouldn't fancy doing this after it's rained, but in August the drive is perfectly doable in any standard car. There are passing places but the steep drop down the mountain at the side of the road and lack of any guardrail mean this drive probably isn't for anyone with a serious fear of heights.

The three car parks are at the bottom of the gorge, with the second and third only a couple of minutes' drive apart. From the third car park you walk about 10 minutes along the stony track to get to the main pool. You can then swim and climb up the gorge to the waterfall at the end, walk up the path above the pools or swim and climb back downriver to where the path from the car parks crosses the river.

It's worth wearing swimwear and old trainers or beach shoes with a grip to climb along the gorge as the rocks are smooth and slippery in places. You can leave your bags/picnic under a tree while you swim.

Thoroughly recommended for the beautiful scenery and the fun of exploring the pools and waterfalls.

Drove out of Otívar and stopped at yellow hut with padlocked gates. Rang the number on the sign ( having Goggled the code for Spain 0034)and within 10 mins the ranger arrived. The man on the phone speaks no English. It cost €5 for the car Fiat Panda and €5 per person. Long drive down to car park as road very rough but perfectly drivable. Parked in last car park ( there are only 3) and set off up the path. Beautiful walk and stunning scenery quiet tough in places but we had ordinary trainers on. Fabulous fun watching the groups cannoning down in their wetsuits. Water is freezing but beautifully clean and clear. Gate looks locked but padlock is just hooked over on the return trip. We rang as per instructions on our way out but signal is poor and man on phone spoke no English. Luckily another car came up 10 mins later and opened the gate for us. Brilliant day out worth every euro it cost.

With the aura of an hidden valley, great beauty and crystal clear waters. A brilliant walk which if you go further up into the hills and back down to the river there are many excellent pools you can swim in and waterfalls. At the very top you’ll find a spectacular waterfall

One of the best places we found on our trip to Andalucia

Paradise in Spain

We got to the gates of junta de los rios and had to phone the ranger to come and open the gates ( he was with us in 6 mins) . We had to pay 5 euros each and 5 for the car, which my husband chuntered about for about half an hour but then retracted his moan and said it was well worth the money. First you travel down a very dusty and bumpy road (we had a Megan and it was fine) for 7 kilometres , we parked on car-park 3. We took our bags of towels and picnic which got in the way sometimes, trying to negotiate the water crossings and climbs. We hadn't realised it was going to be walking through water and up and down rocks ( as the information said it was easy ) but we really enjoyed the experience and the kids loved it. The whole day was just brilliant and even though the water was freezing we had a little dip. We took some great photos and have fantastic memories. We recommend this experience to all. Tip : wear either old trainers or rock shoes because you will slip if you wear hiking boots. They also lock the gates around 4 in October so go early to have enough time to experience it all. ENJOY

A beautiful setting. Well worth a visit. My teenagers loved it. Wear decent trainers that you don't mind getting wet and take plenty of water.
