Tennoji Temple wasn't in my plans; I just let the YaNeSen walk surprise me whatever I can find. Tennoji Temple is the first part of the YaNeSen walk, together with Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street and Yanaka Cemetery. Unlike Sensoji Temple in Asakusa that is full...More

Nice little temple, for the beginning of your Yanesen walking tour. You can see the bronze buddha statue the moment you enter. It was very quiet, no tourists (besides me!) & little locals too.

Short walk from Nippori Station to a lovely temple with a bronze Buddha statue. Was fortunate to visit during cherry blossoms. The temple borders the cemetery.

Equally nice to any other good temple, but it's in a quiet neighbourhood, it's not touristy, even locals didn't really show up there.

Definitely a must see! Very beautiful temple and an extraordinary gardens. You can buy tickets to either just the garden or both, I would recommend both as it is only a fraction more and the temple is lovely.

Tennoji used to own most of Yanaka Cemetery before a portion of their land was confiscated in the Meiji restoration era.The remaining complex is well preserved.

This is a gem of a temple at the back of Yanaka Cemetery and across the road from Nippori Station. It is really peaceful and has a lovely bronze buddha along with a number of other beautiful monuments. I think it is often overlooked so...More

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
