The Namiyoke Inari Shrine is located very near Tsukiji Market. It isn't the kind of shrine that I would normally go out of my way to visit, but since it was close to Tsukiji Market then I did explore it briefly. Like most shrines in...More

During around seventeenth century, it is said that Tsukiji area was close to sea. It was reclaimed after Meiji era, but was difficult because of waves. After Namiyoke Shrine was built, reclaimed construction was completed. Since then the shrine was enshrined Namiyoke(protection from waves).

It's located right next to the busy fish market so once you've finished walking around the market and tasting all the different types of food there is to offer drop by the shrine to relax.

This is a shrine near the famous fish market that has over 300 years of history. Lovely and welcoming. Stop by for a bit after you finish in the busy market area!

As others said, maybe not worth a trip if you're far away, but if you're around Tsukiji Fish Market, it's a good place to stop at and get a hint of the areas old history - I believe this shrine is from the Edo period

Nice little shrine at the end of the fish market. Worth the stop to drop a few coins and pay respects. If you a visiting the area it's worth the 10 min stop

There are a number of small shrines in this area which is an older part of Tokyo and more traditional. It sits adjacent to the fish market and if you are not visiting the market itself I would not bother.

This small shrine is at the back of the fish market, in between the main market and the outer market. Whilst I wouldn't say it was worth a trip just to see it, combined with other attractions in the area is it worth visiting.
