Melanara beach is excellent – spacious, the dark sand warms up nicely and the sea floor is soft sand. There are nice seafood restaurants around and showers.

Do not expect sunbeds or umbrellas (or anything else) for hire. Do not expect jet skis or any motor boats - on a Monday in early October this beach was empty - half the restaurants were also shut, but the Venecia 2 was open and excellent. There is a massive car park behind the beach, we missed the signs (if there were any) and found free parking in the road

Not too far from Las Palmas, this is a quiet clean black sandy beach with clear water has toilets, playground, picnic area, large free carpark and several rustic but yummy fish and seafood eateries,. There is a dedicated wheelchair area, adapted for accessible bathing. Just offshore, atop an old fishing pier, is a sculpture of Neptune (sadly, he is missing an arm and his trident).

This is a great cove beach surrounded by the village of Melenera. The sand is fine and clean and in the winter it is uncrowded. This beach is used by locals so expect people of all ages. Since Gran Canaria stays 18-20C most days in winter this beach is a great place to come sit with a book or enjoy a drink or a meal at the outdoor eateries by the beach. There is a coastal walk that joins this beach, both north and south, with other coves. The trail is a favourite with local runners and dog walkers because it really is lovely. Lots of ocean views, free exercise equipment, eateries and bars and views inland.
