The REAL history of The Canaries - Well worth the trouble
Dec 2013 • Couples
Although primarily aimed at school trips and difficult to find or make contact, we found this service to be highly educational, very interesting and well worth the money (30€ for just the two of us).

The CanEduCam team are a team of archaeologists who research the original inhabitants of the Canaries (aborigines, aka Guanches) from before the Spanish conquest in 1493. They have a number of sites (digs) in the region, with varied styles, some in caves in the mountains, some with stone built villages overlooking the sea. Going with CanEduCam is the ONLY way to get to see these historical sites.

We only got to see one as we were on our way to the airport to come home, but it was well worth the visit. The dig was only 10 minutes drive from their office towards the airport. They were more than happy to take just the two of us - I suspect a larger group would work out cheaper. The gentleman who showed us the dig was very knowledgeable and friendly, taking time to answer questions and discuss things, explaining how they found the sites and how much more there was to do on the sites.

To find their office, drive down into Playa de Arinaga, through the "pedestrianised" section of the high street, right to the bottom, straight over the last little roundabout until you have to turn left in a one-way system. Take the next right, then turn left and left again and you will be in Blas de Lezo. Number 25 is 150 yards down on the left, with a modern white aluminium door next to a steel roller garage door. Ring the bottom door-bell:)

Their office is only manned from 09:30 to 14:00 on normal work-days, so make sure you know whether it is a Spanish holiday before trying to find them. Although primarily Spanish speaking they do have a couple of team members who speak good English.

Highly recommended if you are into the history.
