This is a wonderful museum! I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of the Antarctic exhibitions as well as the current research. Thank you Dr Enomoto for showing me round!

First of all, let me emphasis that the entry to this particular museum is Free of Charge. Walking distance from the Tachikawa-Kita Station on the Tama Monorail. There's a theatre whereby one could enter and watched a short video clip on the Aurora by staring up at the ceiling of the threatre [tent-like structure] in a corner of the museum exhibition area.
Tips - you can get the cheapest drink available via the vending machine on its premises, perhaps because it's a school [not really sure] but the mineral water is priced at 70 yen [others priced at 120 yen] at the vending machine located diagonally opposite to the entry where the polar science museum is situated.

The museum is really small... you can visit it in 30 minutes, but it is worth of visiting and I really appreciated the aurora' s show.

Apart from not much information being available in English, the museum was very interesting and covered all aspects of polar science

Japan has a proud history of polar exploration including the early explorations of Lt Nobu Shirase in Antarctic a hundred years ago. The museum is small but gives a good representation of Japan’s past history and current research activities. English literature and assistance are available. It’s definitely worth a visit if you are in Tachikawa area. The museum is on the south side of the National Institute of Polar Research building, about 400 metres from the western side of the Takamatsu Station on the Tamatoshi Monorail line (one station north of Tachikawa city centre).
