For me, Brier Island is like home. I have a lot of family living there. The island is definitely worth a visit. It's beautiful!!! You can take very nice walks there. And there are plenty of accommodation options. Including The Lodge. Which has recently undergone a major renovation. The island has 1 shop, which is managed by Wouter de Vries and his wife Joyce de Vries-Robicheau. Really visit Brier Island sometime. My experience is not from 2022, but from 2017-2019 and much earlier.

The trip here was so much fun! 2 ferry(s). One from East Ferry to Tiverton, Long Island - not USA - this is Nova Scotia! Another ferry from Freeport to Westport on Brier Island. If you are into ferry(s), it's just ice cream on the trip to Brier. The road to the Light house on the Brier goes from asphalt to gravel. Take your time and enjoy the view on the way. Another trail and lighthouse worth going to see. Beautiful all around AND you get to take the same 2 Ferry(s) to get back to Digby. Everyone we met on this trip was beautifully helpful and friendly!

Very impressive Island. Sea all around. Trails, Lighthouses, Beaches. Everything what you want to explore. Whale watching as well. Seals can be seen even from the shore. For nature lovers the perfect spot.
You get on the Island by Ferry from Long Island. Make sure to catch it by time. A very unique ride from one Island to another. What fun. I will return to enjoy and have some more fun.

We stayed at Brier Island Lodge and went with their whale watching trip. Saw 2 humpback whales ...absolutely a thrill...We went out on the 9:30 tour and our guide, Reed, did his best to find whales. The fog was so thick, you couldn't see a thing. After 3 hours, he had to come back in. He was so disappointed. He offered to take us on his next tour at 2:30 no charge. So we went again. He said the advantage of going in the afternoon is the other tour boats share information about where they have seen whales so you have a better chance of seeing them. This paid off as we saw 2 humpback whales feeding. It was so exciting to be so close to animals this big. We got very close and could see them quite well. The boat has an enclosed heated area and also an on top observation deck. (it can be chilly on the water when you are going out so the enclosed cabin is nice)

Do take the time to visit Brier Island whether you stay over or just spend an incredible day .
Very well maintained hiking trails criss cross the 6.5 km island. One trail takes you to Seal Cove where you can see and hear seals basking on the rocks. Another takes you to a beautiful cove called Pea Jack. A great spot for a picnic.
It is so clean and the people are so helpful and friendly.
Many birds to see and lots of wildflowers. Something for everyone.
They do get a lot of fog and the fog horns from the lighthouses blow often.
A great place to experience nature but no night life if that is what you enjoy. Just a quiet relaxing place.

We live on the west coast of BC - right on the ocean - and yet cannot seem to get enough of the sea when we travel.

Brier Island was an incredible place to visit! The village of Westport was quaint and the houses incredibly well kept. All the colours are bright and beautiful! The three light houses were neat to see - you can get right up to West light for some amazing photos! So much history on this island!!

We were there off season and it was still a fun place to spend the afternoon - would be an excellent place for a vacation! Check out Pond Cove Beach - crescent shaped and caribbean like!

We decided to tour from an out of the way location. After driving to Digby Neck and a couple of small ferries, we were at Brier Island. Mariner Cruises was awesome. The water was calm (bring warm coats or jackets, you're on the water). We saw whale after whale. Some mothers with calves and they come right up to the boat. We also saw seals, a salmon farm and various birds. Just let me say this: my wife thought we were out 20 minutes ; but, it was actually 4 hours.

What an awesome, relaxing, friendly place to go! Great little hikes, great whale watching, good places to eat even though there are only a few.

Brier island is a whale watching hotspot in the world. Best time to go there is July and August, September is also ok, but the whales starting to leave the area at that time of the year. I've been there at least 20 times and I never missed my whales. There are many whale watching opportunities. You can see whales directly from the coast (lighthouse) from a distance sometimes. But the best way to see them closer is to book a whale watching tour by boat. I can recommend "Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises" very much. I did several trips by Zodiac and with their big vessel and I saw all kinds of whales, seabirds and seals. Also hiking the trail starting at the lighthouse is something to do on Brier Island. You have to take two ferries to get there (from Digby Neck to Long Island and from Long Island to Brier Island). Keep the ferry times in your head while traveling. On your way to Brier Island you should definitely also stop at the balancing rock trail. See one of my next reviews for that.

I've been three times and it just gets better and better. Relatively isolated ( it takes two short ferry rides to get there ), with a population of about 200, it is unique, quiet and beautiful. Great for long walks with dramatic views, excellent whale watching, fresh fish ( off the boat ). There are no crowds of tourists and no honky tonk. One can rent an entire house for short money from one of the island residents, who are all friendly and very helpful. You will have a great time.
