    Glorious views
Take the cable car for 360 degree views (there is a rotating floor). We spent about a hour wandering around the top, with views over Cape Town and Camps Bay. There is a rocky path, fine with trainers. Recommended

    Allow plenty of time
The organisation makes things run smoothly. As a must see sight there was inevitably a queue, but shade was provided and once at the top it feels spacious. The views were worth it and the food served in the 1067 cafe was very good. All staff were friendly and helpful.

Great views, great walks on Table Mountain, but beware the winds!
There are unofficial websites offering cableway tickets up Table Mountain at exorbitant prices. Avoid these. Just use tablemountain.net for everything you need. Importantly, the top masthead of the website tells you whether the cableway is running or suspended due to the weather or wind conditions. And it gives an estimate of the queue time for the cable cars, assuming you already have tickets. Except for the busiest periods, the wait is only 5 minutes to a maximum of 30 minutes in both directions. So it's mostly unnecessary to splurge for the expensive "fast track" tickets. When we went, there was only a 5-minute wait for the next cable car. The views were tremendous, and with the floor of the car rotating 360 degrees during the ride, everyone had a view. At the top, we enjoyed a warm, sunny day, but the wind was a bit chilly. We embarked on the 45-minute walk around the top, turning around at the ravine that led to the next peak. The views on both sides were spectacular, Cape Town on one side and Camps Bay on the other. We were hoping to see Dassies, the cute rodent creatures that inhabit the mountain top, but we didn't see any. There were a number of colourful lizards, however. When we were ready to descend, the cableway was suspended due to high winds! We stood in a queue for an hour, inching our way forward in a chilly wind that made us glad we brought our windbreakers up, even though we didn't need them until now. An announcement went out on the tannoy throughout the mountain top, telling everyone to make their way to the station to take the last few cars down. This was followed by what sounded like an air-raid siren! My daughter said it was rather "panic inducing"! Eventually we were in a cable car going down. If we had paid for "fast track" tickets, with the suspension, we would still be in the same queue as everyone else, so we were glad we didn't bother. All in all, it was an excellent trip up to Table Mountain. And we were fortunate to make it down the last few cars when the service was suspended. I wondered if they ever left people up there either overnight, or to walk the long walk down, if the cable cars were completely stopped due to the weather. And the next day, due to the winds, the cableway was not operating at all, so we were fortunate to have picked the day we did, as we wouldn't have had the flexibility to go up another day.

Magnificent place that stunned me with its beauty! I went three times until a beautiful day came, so I can really experience the Table Top mountain and take awesome pictures and videos. If you are in Cape Town-this spot is a must! You will not regret it.

    Unbelievable views!
Magnificent and Beautiful, we did the little trail at the top. The sun was shining and we had clears skies is the views were amazing. Honestly I could spend all day going on about how good it was. Its just a must if you are in Cape Town drink in the experience, views and maybe a cheeky beer to finish off your walk. Please give yourself plenty of time, it took most of our core day.

    Breathtaking views
Table top mountain is an important landmark and a “must see” when visiting Cape Town. It has a distinctive flat top. We took the cable car to the top and spent several hours walking around and enjoying the breathtaking views from different areas. Luckily the weather was sunny and clear.

A must do for anyone going to Cape Town
Cape Town is well known as it lies at the bottom of the beautiful Table Mountain. This is a MUST for anyone travelling to Cape Town and is well worth a visit. You can Hike up the mountain which takes about 3 hours, we took the Cable Car and although it takes lots of passengers, the floor rotates so everyone gets to see the stunning scenery going up the mountain. When you reach the top of Table Mountain you will be surprised at the flora and little creatures that call it home. There is also a 'Shop at the Top', a restaurant and a coffee shop. Well worth a visit. Sarah and Dean UK

Even better if you hike up
Fabulous views but even better when you earn them by hiking to the top. I recommend Plattekipp Gorge, which takes 2 strenuous hours. Great draft beer selection at the top! You can take the cable car down.

Spectacular view from Table Mountain on a clear day.
There are two lines at the bottom of the mountain, one to buy tickets and another to board the cable car. We got both skip the line tickets in advance and saved a lot of time on a busy day. Not cheap but well worth it. The gondola is unusual in that it rotates, so everyone gets a view on the way up and down. Spectacular view from on top, but an hour is more than enough unless you are a skilled hiker and want to try the trails.

    Wonderful guide on Table Mountain
Table Mountain lived up to its reputation. Spectacular! But what made it extra special was our guide, Siyabonga Setong, who lead the free walking tour at the top. Siya was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and significance of this natural landmark, and also had deep knowledge of the plant, animal and bird life of the area. He enriched our experience dramatically.

No visit to Cape Town or South Africa actually is complete without a visit to Table Mountain. Just the most amazing views of the city, False Bay, the Cape Peninsula. My advice is to go for Sunset, but due to availability of Uber or busses to get there, plan to arrive about 90 mins before sunset to ensure you get a Cable Car to the top in time. At the top there is a cafe, concrete pathways to walk around the whole area and lots of platforms to capture that view. So easy to sit and chill for hours.

We went twice on the hop on hop off bus city tour but the queues were horrendous. We took a taxi for the first cable car and still waited gor 30 mins but it was worth it . Fabulous views , lovely restaurant, helpful staff and wonderful experience.

Get there early (8am-ish) & book your tickets on-line so you bypass the ticket line because there’s another line you have to wait in to catch the cable car up, but the cable car line moves pretty fast, because they are able to fit 60 people in a car.

Once on the top, there’s free tours every hour that meets in front of the bathrooms and it’s well worth it. We also grabbed a quick bite at the Table Mountain cafe. They had a full breakfast (scrambled eggs, beans, croissants, yogurt,etc...) pizza and sandwiches too, good & reasonably priced.

If you're thinking of going up Table Mountain and it's a clear day, do it as soon as possible. The weather is so changeable that if you wait another day you might miss the opportunity.
We decided to go up on a Monday morning but unfortunately because the mountain had been covered in cloud on the Sunday, lots of people came back again and we found ourselves in a 2.5 hour queue for the cable car.
The wait was worth it though, with fabulous views of the Cape, the city and the harbour from the top.
Whilst up there you can wander around for hours looking at the views from different perspectives, either with or without a free guide. There is also a restaurant for meals, snacks and drinks.
The cable car rotates whilst moving so everyone gets to see all angles of the views both on the way up and down.
A must-do.

Definitely not to be missed.
We pre booked tickets and whilst the visit needs to be based on decent weather, we managed to beat the initial queue.
The ride up was brilliant and the cable car rotated all the way up to provide panoramic views all the way. I am not a lover of cable cars but this one was excellent.
Once at the top the views were absolutely stunning.

We had previously taken the Cable Car, but this time decided to walk up. We started the hike by paying the entrance fee (ZAR75 pp) to Kirstenbosch Gardens, although should have given ourselves more time to walk around them. You need to buy a guide (ZAR10) and then the information desk provides you with another map and an explanation of the route. Through the Gardens and the first few hours is fairly self explanatory. However, after that you need to take care, but if you head in an upwards direction you won't go far wrong, but Mclears Beacon is a good 2-3 hours hike depending upon your capabilities. There are no distance or time posts which would be helpful. Also the weather can change rapidly so be prepared. From the Beacon it is about 45-60 minutes to the Cable Station. We were a little concerned that we might have to walk down due to the strong winds, but fortunately we managed to but had to wait an hour. Therefore bear in mind that you may have to walk down after a 4 hour hike up. The weather was a lot worse than on our previous visit, but stunning views on a lovely day. A challenging hike, but well worth the effort.

We booked our trip with City Sightseeing on the red bus from the Sea Life Centre in Cape Town which cost nearly £60 which included the entrance and conservation fee for Table Mountain for my husband and myself. It was the first beautiful day after about 3 days of unsettled weather and we left around 11.30 am. We got off the bus at the table mountain terminal and were surprised at how busy it was. There was a long queue on the Table Mountain entrance side but there was also a huge queue on the other side of the road. We tried to walk to join the end of the queue but it went on and on and we heard people talking and wondering if they would get back in time for their cruise ship leaving. We think we would have queued for at least 2 hours and then there would be a similar queue to come back down the mountain. We reluctantly decided to abort our cable car and table mountain experience and continued on the red bus circuit. There does not seem to be any control of the number of tickets sold for one day…, so we lost our entrance fee and of course missed the chance to go up the mountain to see the spectacular views. There seems to be no mechanism for a refund or change of day. A disappointing experience. I have submitted a photo from the cable car terminal which is as high as we got.

You can’t visit Cape Town with out going to Table Mountain.

Such an amazing experience. We went at 13.00 used the cable car which cost 300 rand and didn’t have to wait long as the que wasn’t that long.

The top of the mountain there is a gift shop and a cafe both are reasonably priced.

The views are breathtaking , absolutely amazing.

The first thing to say about Table mountain is to keep an eye on the weather conditions as it can change quickly. If you know you have a clear day or even part day my advice is to go and make the most of it. Whilst we were in Cape Town the table cloth covered the mountain on numerous days.

We travelled up table mountain via the hop on hop off bus route and then the cable car, which I have reviewed separately. There are also hiking routes which many people were taking on the day we went up.

Once up the mountain you will find numerous pathways to explore each leading to a great photo opportunity. The pathways become less obvious the farther you venture from the cable car station but are still worth exploring.

There are many interesting flowers and plants to observe and look out for the Dassies.

There is a gift shop, cafe and toilet facilities at the top, shade is in short supply though so be prepared on hot busy days if you need to queue for the cable car down.

Climbing table mountain, however you do it is a must do whilst in Cape Town.

Beautiful views from the top, but don't listen to anyone who tells you it's an easy walk up - we did Platterkip Gorge and it's definitely not!!! A few things we found out:

1. There are ants everywhere! The minute you stop for a breather they will be all over your shoes and inside your socks!

2. I brought a jumper with me as advised but it was 25 degrees at the top so it was just an added weight in my rusksack. This was midday in Feb so it might be different at other times

3. There is a stop on the Cape Town tour bus 20 mins from the start of Platterkip Gorge. It is well signposted but a windy uphill walk just to get to the start of the trail

4. Queues for a cable car back down are long, we waited 20 mins at the top

5. Look out for snakes, it seems they are quite rare but I nearly stood on a black snake (not sure what type) that slithered out from under a rock and across where I was walking

6. Be prepared to stop, lots! Towards the end it gets very steep, I'm probably of an average fitness level and and I had to stop every 10 or so steps near the top

7. Don't wear rings, your hands will swell up becuaee of the altitude and heat

Apart from that I loved it, although if I'd known how hard it was I might have got the cable car both ways!
