    Spectacular drive
We visited the gorge on a self-drive basis en-route to Tinghir. Access is on a good asphalt road. The steepest part of the pass has many switchbacks but the road is relatively wide for the most part and was not too difficult to drive; we have certainly had more challenging drives elsewhere in the world. We travelled just beyond Hotel Cafe Timzzillite around 30km from Boumaine before turning round. This takes in the narrowest part of the gorge as well as the pass which maximises the different landscapes to be seen along the route. Interesting landscapes along the way with plenty of places to stop and admire the views although for pure impact, we thought the Todra Valley viewed the following day had the slight edge for us.

Monkey fingers: original cliffs and an impressive canyon
The “Monkey Fingers” cliffs are an astonishing set of immense finger-shaped rocks. The cliffs are crossed by a canyon whose entrance is not indicated at all. If you have time (2 or 3 hours), you can hire the services of a guide to take a long and sometimes difficult walk in the canyon. If you don't have much time, you can reach the impressive canyon entrance on your own. More information on ideesdevoyage.fr

    Beautiful hike with Lahcen
Hello, we hiked for 3 hours in the early morning in the Monkey Fingers gorge. Our guide was Lahcen, who did a great job! Very nice trajectory. Lahcen explained all the vegetation and geology. We walked a route we would not have found ourselves! Please contact Lahcen at +212 677-657053 if you are looking for a guide. Twan (NL)

Super fine Guide with lunch in restaurant Dardani
We made a beautiful walk with our Guide Mustafa through the Dades valley. We went through the canyon. We had to scramble and climb. Mustafa helped us with everything. The setting is beautiful. Then we went to his house for lunch. He has a small restaurant Dardani (right next to Dar Rihani). We had a great meal. It was a wonderful experience.

Lahcen. Fantastic guide for 3 hour hike in Dades Gorge, Monkey Fingers Canyon.
Lahcen (+212 677657053) gave us a great 3 hour hike with local information about Berbers, Mint tea, Kasbah and more. I'm 68 and it was an easy hike with rest stops as required. He speaks good English.

Memorable day with our guide Lahcen
Go with Lahcen, he’s a really good guide Memorable day experience. Text him on WhatsApp +212 677-657053. He will give you all the details of the excursion. We went to see the Monkey Fingers rock formations and went through a narrow canyon. We could see really nice landscapes and rock formations and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to stay more days otherwise we could have made more hikes in the area. We’ll try to come back with friends and family to see more next time. Thank you

We were lucky enough to stay overnight in the Dadès Gorge, so were able to explore at our leisure. Really breathtaking in places, with such spectacular scenery. The zigzag bends were so impressive… more challenging to drive up, than down…particularly when overtaken by local drivers, who had zero vision as far as oncoming vehicles were concerned. As it was pretty quiet we were able to get some really lovely photos, though wish we had taken a photo of the monkey fingers rocks the night before, with the setting sun on them!

We hiked the canyon with Lahcen (‪+212 677‑657053‬): not only he’s the best guide ever (careful, attentive, friendly, knowledgeable), but the hike itself is adventurous and fun!!! There are two ways, the easy one without rock climbing (almost flat trail) or the hard one with three climbing spots (doable for fit people - just bring shoes with good grip). Lahcen thank you it was the best memory of our Morocco! Next time we go to the caves :)

My wife, daughter and I did a 3 day / 2 night trek with Lahcen (+212 677-657053) in the Dades Valley. The scenary is breathtaking, from gorge walking past the famous Monkey Fingers, to heading further up into the valley past the cave of many a local Berber / Amazigh.

Lahcen is an excellent guide. We immediately felt at ease with his kind and gentle manner. As someone who has done a lot of walking & mountaineering in Scotland and usually as the group navigator / organiser, it was wonderful to be able to sit back and let Lahcen lead us through the mountains in which he grew up. And at all times we felt comfortable with his skills and understanding of where we were. He provided us with a simple, but tasty berber style lunch, and throughout adjusted the trek to our needs. Lahcen would also point out things of interest (such as local wells), explaining how they were made and their usage. He also retained a keen interest in the activities in the valley and knew some of other other families living in the caves and small dwellings within the valley. I feel I've walked away having seen a wonderful part of the world and learnt much about the people who live there.

We spent 2.5 weeks touring around Morocco, and these 3 days were the highlight. Lahcen it was a pleasure for our family to be in your company and share your home area with us. I truly hope we are able to meet again and do some more trekking. Shkran!

"Oh. So good" - you know what we mean ;-)

We are travelling Morocco in our campervan and sometimes like to get out and explore the area, with the help of a guide. Having driven through the Dades Gorge we did some research and found Lahcen who we contacted via WhatsApp (+212 677 657053) to take us on a trek through the Monkey Paw Canyon. We arranged to meet him the next day at 10 at the Eden Hotel Tamlalt. My husband and I are both in our 60s, overweight and unfit but with Lahcen’s help managed a three hour trek through stunning scenery, up and down rocks, over rivers and through tight gorges. Highly recommend

Stop at Tamlate in a Berber village and observe the way of life.
A valley punctuated by a river, gardens and casbahs..
Take a hike in the canyons of the monkey's fingers ..
Moonscape, beautiful sunsets..
Berbers are authentic, courageous people with values such as sharing, respect for Mother Nature ..
I especially thank houcine who allowed me to discover its culture.

Exploring the stunning Monkey Fingers Canyon in Dades Valley was an unforgettable experience. The unique sandstone formations, resembling "monkey fingers," were absolutely mesmerizing, and every step offered a new breathtaking view.

Our guide, Lahcen Ourfi (+212699958449), made the adventure truly special. His deep knowledge of the region and engaging stories about the local culture and geology brought the canyon to life. With his friendly and professional guidance, we felt safe and immersed in the beauty around us.

The hike was a perfect mix of adventure and tranquility, with panoramic views, narrow passages, and peaceful shaded spots. If you’re visiting the Dades Valley, this tour—especially with Lahcen as your guide—is an absolute must!

It is the best attraction in the area. Unfortunately, most people drive only the first 24 kms from the intersection. You should make an effort and continue all the way to Mesmrir (about 60 kms) and if you can not, do drive at least 35 kms. the Gorge is magnificent.

We visited here with friends as part of our tour of the country. We began in the town of Tinghir and surrounding oasis countryside. This is a fast growing town and has the biggest silver mine in the country called the Imider Silver Mine. We started in the valley and were introduced to all the plants that they grow commercially, paprika, saffron, many soft fruits such as olives, oranges, nuts such as almonds, alfalfa, for their livestock, as well as vegetables for themselves. We walked between the fields and were shown a 400 year old date palm tree in the valley then climbed up to the Jewish quarter which was built in 1947 using traditional methods which have to be renovated every twenty years. We were shown how they made the bricks for construction and the ‘plaster’ for the outside of the walls from mud, dung and straw. The area contains 145 families all living in conditions similar to the medinas we saw earlier, tiny narrow beige passageways all looking the same, to get lost in. We were welcomed into a carpet makers business, given tea and shown their products which were lovely. The families were very hospitable and it was extremely interesting to see and understand their way of life.

Our tour group took an early morning (during the first hour after dawn) drive about 10 miles (17km) up the Dades Gorge. Between the rugged scenery and the early morning light it was a very picturesque trip. I was sad when the bus had to turn back. :(

In another lifetime I would have liked to take a 4x4 up route 704 through the gorge and then turning and coming back down route 703 to Todra Gorge.

Drive to this place from Marrakech is nothing but stunning. It will simply take your breath away. Place is a hidden gem. It has so many scenic routes on the way. Recommend everyone who visit Morocco to go out of Marrakech and take either a day trip or stay overnight
