Just to say that I was glad of my raincoat over my t-shirt for the last tunnel as there is heavy dripping in several places and at the beginning. Slippery in places, though the path has been recently maintained and the wire fences are all...More

Nice part of Levada crossed Levada Nova in Calheta, goes through Sao Lorenço. This part is without any tunnels and waterfalls, easy walking.

Good mainly flat walking but some of the paths are narrow with some impressive drops. Two short tunnels, the third is very long and you will get wet and you will bang your elbows and probably head. Torch is essential, one per couple of people...More

Our first foray into levada walking. This is an easy walk, but take a good torch for the tunnels. The last one is over 1km long and very narrow with low ceiling; at 1.80m I had to crouch the entire length of it!

If you are taller than 1,60m you will have to be careful with your head because the tunnels are really low and the paths narrow. If you're shorter than that you're up for a treat: This is the one time in your life when you'll...More

This hike was well worth the 3 hours it took. The vegetation and scenery were out of this world. There were several waterfalls along the way which were lovely. My pictures say it all.

I would like to make some practical remarks here. First, by the time of writing the location is not correctly stated here on TripAdvisor. Instead, look for PR16 on Google Maps and it will take you to a sign that indicated the start of the...More

Short 8km (return) levada with long tunnel at the end - 1km. You will need light, sometimes slippery, nice views, no people, recommended!
