I visited this temple in month of April so it appeared to be blessed with nature. Everything was go green and the cherry blossom in early April made it look surreal. Probably one kilometer away from Hikone station on way to Maibara.

Ryotanji is beautiful indoors and out. The landscaping outside is soft and inviting, the displays inside are very neat and pretty-looking, and the gardens in particular are very nicely cultivated. I recommend going while it's warm outside, as the tatami floors tend to be brutal...More

Fine gardens, painted screens, contemplative atmosphere and the few other visitors we saw there were there to worship.

Visited this garden in the grounds of the Ryotanji temple after Hikone castle. We weren't sure of what we would find as there were no people around and not many signs but found an old monk weeding another part of the gardens who ushered us...More

This temple feels ancient! The cemetery grounds behind it stretch on forever. It makes me wonder how they got those stones up the steep hillsides! It's quiet and earthy here, everything is bathed in green. The temple itself has many daruma, you can buy one...More
