Nakatsu castle tower is a museum of the Okudaira family, who were hereditary vassals of the Tokugawa family. Priceless heirlooms such as; a weapon that was used at the battle of Nagashino; armor and battle coats passed down and worn by successive generations; and writing in Tokugawa Ieyasu's own hand can be viewed by the general public.

Castle is charming. Very serene around the castle. Nice short visit over my stay at Beppu. The shrine beside it was nice and serene too. Lots of parking at the shrine.

The castle was around 15 minutes of way away from the Nakatsu Station. And the entrance fee was 400 yen per adult. Beside the castle was the Nakatsu river. Therefore, the top of the castle overlooked great view of the river. The castle was 5-story....More

This castle was the center of the former feudal domain Nakatsu and the seat of the Okudaira clan. The central tower houses an educating exhibition on the local history of Nakatsu which was one of the important ports during the Edo period.

This was a great place to visit along with nearby Kitsuki. The cherry blossoms made it all worthwhile. Interesting temple area to explore.

I went to Nakatsu Castle on one of the town festival in early May. There were some samurai outfits and a tons of traditional activities took place in the castle area. The castle was not so big but the content in the museum was rich.

Nakatsu Castle has a majestic and state façade that makes for lovely pictures against the deep blue skies. On the inside, it can get a little boring though if you are not a serious history buff or artifacts kind of person. A lot of stuff...More
