Casa de Mateus is a bit away from the center of Vila Real, but if you like strolling in a romantically designed garden it's totally worth it.

It’s certainly an impressive building and the view of it across the rectangular lake has people reaching for their cameras. Unfortunately the lake is a bit mucky and not as well cared for as the buildings. They do have their own wine and also their...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the palace. Before we entered the building on a tour, we walked around the vineyards and gardens for quite a while. It's well worth taking your time doing that -- the views over the vineyards to the nearby hills...More

Went here as part of our tour. Have no idea what the admission cost is. Grounds are beautiful, especially the mirror lake in front of the house and the shaped shrubbery in the back gardens. We had local students as guides and they were very...More

Interesting house. Library is the highlight, although we did not get to see the chapel, which I regret. You must join a guided tour, so the experience will depend on the guide. For example, there us a fascinating collection of relics I would have enjoyed...More

We visited Casa de Mateus in the afternoon. The calm reflection pool with the sleeping lady sculpture and the mansion in the background was very picturesque. The gardens in the rear were inviting and interesting. It's a worthwhile stop as you tour that part of...More

it's 12 euro per visitor, for the castle, the chapel and free for the gardens. If you like wine, spend the extra 5 euro for the wine tasting, it's something different from the well known rosé

Hi there, To be honest I am not sure! I purchased my ticket at the front gate, but there were a few tour busses there, so maybe you can book a tour? Best of luck! And wishing you excellent weather for your outing (:
