The Basilica is the focal point of the main town square, which feels like the living room of the city. OK it's not a european cathederal - but the inside is bright, light and quite beautiful. Definitely take the trip up to the roof (believe...More

The exterior of the Basilica exudes power. The interior is nice but not particularly impressive. The day was very humid with temperature hovering around 90+. It was noontime and not conductive of a walk on the roof. Volcano's can be seen from street level and...More

Make sure you take time both to visit the cathedral and to climb for its rooftop view of León and the surrounding countryside. The interior of the church is beautiful with its multiple altars as well as the Virgin who is carried through the city...More

Attractive cathedral with some nice frescoes. From the roof, there are excellent views across the city and of the volcano chain. You need to take your shoes off to go on the roof so if it is a sunny day, bring some socks as the...More

As part of our cultural tour we visited the cathedral and saw Dario's grave. The climb to the roof is easy and great views of the volcanos around the city. Take your shoes off so take socks.

This is the Largest Cathedral in South America and is palatial inside. Our guide Erwin was great with the history of this cathedral. The tomb of the poet Rubén Darío is near the altar and guarded by a sad looking lion, a stunning sight. The...More

This is a huge and beautiful cathedral with amazing works of art inside. Right in the centre of town, it seems to have been spruced up recently. The tomb of the poet Rubén Darío is near the altar and guarded by a sad looking lion,...More

Had a wonderful time at the city of Leon with my faimily. Enjoyed the view from the famous cathedral. Spectacular place to go. Will visit again and recommend it to friends. The only Derek is that they don’t open on Sundays just with reservation for...More

What can you say good or bad about a cathedral? There are many of them in this city, and this one appears to be the biggest, although I haven't verified that. Very ornate by central American standards, not by European. Leon is a dirty city,...More
