Amazing view of Spegazzini Glacier, not so much of Upsala glacier. The boat is comfortable and safe and all runs on time. However this is tourism to the enth degree. The hard sell of the photos and the boat positioning and staying till all photos are taken by professionals is pretty crass. The commentary is woeful , telling me that there are cows in the surrounding park has no informative value , the nauseating need to fill the cabin with useless information was irritating. BUT this area is impressive and would still do the cruise despite the above bring a sense of humor and you will be fine.

Only one company runs the boats... although many excursion companies sell tickets. Boat tours are run on time, and very professionally - in English and Spanish.

Rio de Hielo Express Cruise in the Argentinian Lake is an absolute Must when visiting El Calafate...
We were picked up early in the morning to embark a catamaran to start a cruise in Lago Argentino... after about an hour or so we arrived to Glacier Upsala ... amid a lake full of magnificent icebergs ... it's impossible to keep oneself from repeating "OMG ...this is beautiful".... after repositioning the boat several times... in order to have different views ... the vessel continues to the next point ... Spegazzine Glacier ... which is considered one of the tallest glacier ....
The day before we visited Perito Moreno Glacier and paid the 800 Argentinian peso entrance fee to Parque National Los Glaciares, however, by visiting the national park two days in a row, we paid only 50% on the second day....So... visiting three different glaciers of the Patagonian Ice Field is a great way of developing an idea of the grandeur of this magnificent area of the world ...

Well worth the crowded boat to be so close to glaciers and icebergs. Friendly staff on the boat. Hope for a sunny day as the blue shades are unbelievably spectacular.

Astounding views, good descriptions and commentary along the way, highly recommended (especially as precursor to mini trekking or similar ON a glacier)

A beautiful and comfortable ride, although whenever the catamaran stops to view a glacier or a particularly impressive iceberg everyone crowds outside to get a better view and its tough to get to the front of the crown. Tip: Ttry to arrive early so that you're one of the first to get on line. That way you can get a window seat with the best view. About 2/3 of the seats are in the middle of the boat and the view is nowhere near as good. However wherever you sit, when the boat stops to view a glacier or iceberg most folks will be outside in front of the windows so the only way to get a really good view is to be outside. You'll get only within a mile or so of the Upsala glacier because its so active and thus dangerous, but the icebergs in the area are huge and beautiful. You get much closer to the Spegazzini glacier which is very impressive.

It's 5 hours long. You get close to the glaciers and sail among icebergs. Nice for taking photos.
Do take your own food, it's very expensive if you buy it on the boat and it's not good food.
The guides are not very informative.

A boat take you to several glaciers, stop in two of them and they allow you to take photos. Inside the boat they sell whisky, vine, hot chocolate and cazuela (kind like a soup).
