Our travel agent planned a boat tour of the lake, but we felt it wasn't really worth doing. We saw a few water birds, but we only traveled a small portion of the lake.

We loved the smooth crossing toward the volcano and were so fortunate to have some clearing of the clouds that are Arenale’s frequent halo. Really a treat after the rough terrain from Monteverde!

I do believe you can there are a few swimming areas around the lake. at the far end of lake by the end of dam is a water sports boating company that has guided tours, kayaks and stand up paddle boards.

Sorry can’t help you. It wasn’t breezy when we visited, but in reality that single observation doesn’t mean much.
