If you are in Xi'an then it makes sense to go here and to the Drum Tower and the city wall. This is a very pretty tower in the center of the old city. Looks better at night than during the day. Its also very...More
We had dinner in a local restaurant and then was able to experience this area at night. A fountain new this area played music and had a water and light show. It was a nice respite for the evening after a day of sightseeing.
Huge watch tower looks like a huge pagoda. Most enchanting at night, completely iluminated, outstanding view. Situated at the edge of the moslem quarter and the old and crowded pedestrian street which worths itself a few hours stroll. Two minutes from the ancient muslim mosque.
If you read my prior posts I always say Shoot At Night. My day shots are typical tourist shots, they lacked any drama. My guide did not understand why night shooting was so important to me until I showed him the same shot from he same...More
Surrounded by a shopping area and some restaurants, this moderate-sized square is often where visitors start or end their tour of the city's Bell and Drum Towers and/or the Muslim quarter. It's not a bad place to slow down for a hot cup of brew...More
You cannot miss this building as it actually forms a roundabout in the very centre of Xian. It sits up really high so has great views overlooking the city. At night it is quite magical as it is lit up and looks magical. Unmissable.

The Drum Tower and the Bell Tower are large pagodas which are particularly spectacular at night. You can also visit the interiors which are sort of small museums. The Drum Tower has a drumming exhibitiion I think once a day (maybe twice). I don't think you'd need a guide, and they are quite close to each other. Also not a long walk from the city wall which is worth seeing. They are in the center of the old walled city area and are adjacent to the lively Muslim quarter. Definitely worth going to!
