Not being educated in the world of art I didn’t know what to expect but we were enthralled!!! Some amazing works of art, paintings that looked liked pictures, we don’t usually frequent art galleries but we enjoyed this - I think more so than the Hermitage
Not as famous as the Hermitage but this museum also contains countless works of art and focuses on Russian art from the 12th century onwards. The building is very impressive and was built as a Palace in the neoclassical style.
Great works by Russian artists that are not commonly known outside of Russia. Some beautiful rooms and folk art exhibited. Lovely gardens behind the museum.
Though not as huge as the Hermitage. I enjoyed visiting the gallery of Ilja Repin's works. He used to live close to my mom's home (Terijoki, near St Petersburg). I've heard stories, now I managed to see his works.
