This is one of the better forts in the Middle East. Large, interesting, with good views, it is well worth a visit. It is a two hour drive from Muscat, but one can include the UNESCO Birkat Al Mawz site about an hour away.

The Nizwa Fort is nice, but also similar like other forts in Oman. If you choose ... this is a good one. On the roof you have a nice view on the city.

Interesting old fort in the centre of town. There's also a museum in the fort. Much more expensive entry fee than Bahla fort.

For the first time in Oman we had to pay to visit an attraction but it was worth it. As well as the beautifully restored fort and castle buildings, the displays brought to life the culture and history of the region. There is quite a...More

Out of all the places I have visited in Oman, this was by far my favourite. Almost 90% of the fort is open to public and you can explore every room and ever little corner. The view from the fort to the mosque is stunning...More

Considering all the forts and castles that we visited during this trip, we found 5 OMR a bit too pricey to enter the castle. However, you are given a map with some information and you get to see expositions and read about typical Omani traditions...More
