it is one of the larges city squares anywhere. Pictures do not emphasize the sheer scale of it. One of the best areas to visit while in Beijing. But there is so much dust all around. A lot rubbish, air pollution.

All the years of watching NYC newscasts and whenever the story was about China this was the scene. The iconic photo of MAO on the red background over looking the people on Tiananmen Square. Between Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. Bring your camera!

Across the street from Tienanmen square, the very-obvious bigger than life portrait of Mao gives you the sense of what occurred there.

This does not go directly into the forbidden city but, there is a good feel as you walk up to the entrance to the forbidden city. There is a security and the place can be crowded.

This square is worth seeing when you are in Beijing. There is a security check at the entrance, and I was asked to open my bag in Chinese! And the guard asked me to explain the contents of my plastic bottle (just an orange drink!)...More

It is one of the must-go places of Beijing. How can you say you have been to Beijing if you never visit Great Wall, Imperial Palace and Times Square
