A delightful piece of whimsy. Built to replace an actual boat there is no way this is every going to floaty, as it's made of marble. The upper section is faux marble - wood painted to look like

Located to the western side of the Long Gallery at the Summer Palace the Quinyan (or 'Marble') Boat was built by the Emperor Quinlong as a symbol that the Qing Dynasty was as stable and enduring as a rock. It is not particularly interesting by...More

Qingyan Stone Boat is great marble boat on the lake and is actually located at the summer palace. You will take great pictures with the boat as background.

This boat was made for the empress. It’s marble!!! Goes nowhere and sits in the water. You cannot go on it. BUT it is still worth the walk thru the summer palace grounds to see.

This is probably not the sort of attraction that I would make an effort to see. However, it is at the Summer Palace on the edge of Kunming Lake so I thought to just go along and have a look. The boat is not functional...More

I have to disagree with previous reviewers about not worth walking down to see this boat. This is a very special piece of history on display here. A stone boat carved beautifully and majestically though not functioning and of no use. Isn't that what most...More

Interesting, but not much else to see; take a photo and move on to enjoy the walkway with the paintings. Nice bit of history.
