The view from atop the Mount of Olives is wonderful and provides not only a great vista for viewing and taking pictures, but also gives you time to think on all the different bits of history that unfolds in front of you.
This is a quick stop, a place to climb out of the tour bus and look at the city you'll be spending the next few days exploring. A good place to get a sense of what's old, what's new, what's original, what's not,

Yes. It may look far but actually very well doable. Take eg the Lion gate, go to Getsemaneh and directly behind Getsemaneh on the right hand side a road goes straight up to Mt Olive with the fantastic views.
