They are some interesting churches and other historical sites but the main reason to get there is to see the view of the mount temple. You can start your day there and just go down to the old city etc.

From this location it is possible to see nearly every site of the Temple Mount and surrounding areas. Caiaphas House, the Upper Room, Fortress Antonia, Garden Tomb, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and many more.

If you have a vision of pleasant green hills and valleys you would be disappointed. It is covered with houses though therre are good views of the Temple Mount and the Valley of Kidron.

Yes. It may look far but actually very well doable. Take eg the Lion gate, go to Getsemaneh and directly behind Getsemaneh on the right hand side a road goes straight up to Mt Olive with the fantastic views.
