- palawanismyhomePalawan Island, Philippines24,563 contributionsA magnificent buildingI have visited Hanoi on several occasions and never get tired of looking at the Opera House, which was built by the French at the beginning of the 20th century. We happened to be there once again while waiting for our limousine bus to take us north. The Opera House seems to be the place where many buses arrange to pick up their passengers. A good choice.Visited March 2023Written April 6, 2023

Walked around Hoa Kiem Lake towards opera house. Colonial building , busy traffic around. - Soumodip D1 contributionA Majestic Spectacle - The Hanoi Opera HouseA visit to the Hanoi Opera House is a must-do for any traveler to the city. From the lavish furnishings to the ornate columns and striking facade, the majestic building will leave you in awe. The grandeur of the structure is matched only by the quality of the performances that take place within its walls. In many brochures I've read this Opera was built according to Paris Garnier Opera house. In my modest opinion, it is nice, specially for Asia, but totally incomparable with Paris'
Nice pass by attraction to have some photos.

Lots of marble stairs and no helpers to guide you on them. Very nice seat and loved the orchestra pit.

This is located in the main district of Hanoi. It displays French architecture with beautiful columns and the facade. A must visit place. Inside is wonderful with lavish furnishing.

Great architecture but no inside visit! Clearly this a architectural and cultural landmark in the city. However, there is no possibility for a tour inside -- or even much access outside e.g., to the gardens. Rather a disappointment that this landmark does not seem to have tours given other cities open their opera houses.
It has been restored/maintained though.

Amazing building looks like it should be in the Center of Paris not Vietnam. It’s amazing that the building is still standing let alone in such an amazing condition.

Hi, You can google Hanoi Opera Tickets. Or, if you are staying at a major hotel ( Sofitel is the best ) the Opera House is literally twp blocks away and you can walk there to get tickets.

Is the only way to enter and see inside the opera house is through a show? Do they have visitor passes during the days there are no shows?

I think you have to go to a show but there is a bar so maybe during show times you will get in. Hope this helps. Others enjoyed the show we didn't rate it.

Hi, I'll be coming to Vietnam for my honeymoon and will be in Hanoi between 21-24 Feb. I am planning to attend a show here and wanted to know if there is a dress code to adhere to.

We went to the Opera and the dress code was relaxed which was a relief. Smart casual is fine (I only had black jeans and a shirt as we are on holiday from the UK and that was fine). If you wanted to dress up more then you could. Up to yourselves.
Its pretty cheap ( approx $15 each got us great seats so worth getting a decent seat if your budget allows.
Enjoy

Are there any big theatrical plays or operas showing on the date of February the 12th 2015? I'd like to take my wife on a romantic night.

Too bad you just missed the only real 'opera' performance of the year last week. The opera house is not constantly showing musical events, so far I do not see anything for 12.2. (try ticketvn website for info, TA does not let me spell out the link) .. from posters around there I sometimes see that the space is 'rented' for private events ... when in the city I recommend to just walk by and ask, as far as I know there are also tours to see the inside. Enjoy Hanoi!
