Bit out of the way but nice to get out of Taipei. Was alright, some place you only go once though. Good views from up the mountain.

I highly recommend taking a bus from Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station to the picturesque village of Jiufen in the mountains about an hour and 15 minutes to the northeast of Taipei. Be sure to go in the morning before the crowds arrive on tour buses...More

Glad that this was part of a tour and that I hadn't made my way on public transport for this! It gets sold as this mystical wonderland but it really isn't. Yes there is some charm underneath the hordes of tourist and cheap plastic merchandise...More

Seem every booth selling the similar souvenirs and the food also not too special and unforgettable, to me it’s not a very interesting stop, I found most night markets are more entertaining. However, tooo many photos to share, hope it can be better and with...More

The street is full of food stalls where you can sample various local favourites including their wonderful desserts. Snacks and drinks stall are aplenty as well. Titbits and novelty shops are a good feature here as well. Must plan a visit to this place when...More

We initially planned to combine Jiufen and Shifen in a single trip, but were utterly charmed by Jiufen. I expected an overpriced, tourist experience but was pleasantly surprised. Of course it was full of tourists, but there was a distinctive charm that made it worthwhile....More

now going to Jiufen is very convenience. We took a bus from Taipei and arrived at the entrance of the village directly. The street is very crowded, and a lot of food.

Jiufen is a very popular destination for a one day excursion from Taipei. There is a direct bus service from Taipei and other suburbs. Or you can take a train to Rueifang and change for a public bus. Jinguashi, an old gold mine, is just...More

It's cute but I think it loses at lot of charm because of the crowds and prices in anywhere that's cute. A few deals can be found as I found decent Xiaolongbao for 80. Just make sure if you're hungry and it's getting late to...More

We took the train from Songshan station to Ruifang and then the yellow taxi from there up to Jiufen village which cost NT205. Actually coming back, we managed to pay NT300 for six people to come back down from Jiufen to Ruifang. The place is...More

Ruifan District
With its air of historical heritage, Shuijinjiu
(ShueiNanDong, Jingguashi, Jiufen) used to be
prosperous and glamorous due to mining. Although its
magnificent semblance no longer exists, the peaceful
and beautiful atmosphere has persisted. With a wave to
the age of the gold rush, one can still see a glimpse
of its glorious past through the Golden Waterfall.

Like other markets they start early and I think with one hours travel from Taipei if u started at 8.30am you would still catch the famous food shops. Even if not open you can catch the scenery.

Stay in taipei, this place is not old or baby friendly. Steep route and long waitint public bus transfer. Not worth visiting unless u're into old heritage houses with average view and awful food.
