- Alex HPort St. Mary, United Kingdom1,319 contributionsA must do if in LangkawiSimply a must do if you’re in Langkawi - it’s the best activity on the island. It’s around 90 ringgit for most of the stalls selling tickets, which includes full day with hotel pick up. The fish farm is cool, the eagle feeding is ethical (NB you don’t physically feed the eagles, you watch them feed in the river), and along the river we saw monkeys, lizards and snakes. All in all, a terrific experience.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 6, 2023
- captvijaybhardwajSingapore, Singapore3 contributionsLangkawi SpecialKilim Geoforest and the Mangrove boat ride is must visit if you are coming to Langkawi. The boat pier is an easy access from all hotels in the town. Boat ride booking can be done online and payment can be done prior boarding the boat. Cash payment is preferred. A 3-hour boat ride costs RM300, but the experience you will have is once in a decade kind of. The ride and associated activities are suitable for age travelers.Visited December 2022Written May 7, 2023
- Vaishali LimayePune, India167 contributionsThe Mangrove tripWe booked a private boat for the mangrove tour of 3 hours. The tour included the Andaman open Sea boat ride / eagle Monkey and Fish feeding, Bat & Crocodile cave. The most i loved was eagle feeding and actual mangrove. We were in awe with the mangroves and imagined the eco-system that thrived below it. The eagle population resides in these mangroves along with the monkeys. It was awsum to see the eagles swoop down to pick their food (chicken pieces) from the water. Another activity included was the fish farm where we met Farida the sting ray fish and Ali the tiger (?) fish. The fish farm itself is a dingy place with compartments made in the sea for different kinds of fishes. I was wondering the amount of food that was being fed to the sting ray with every tourist wanting to feed it ! But overall an excellent trip and worth doing it when in Langkawi.Visited May 2023Written June 2, 2023

The good thing is everything is fairly well maintained and you do get a fun half-day to spend among nature, the mangroves, and the eagles. On both trips, we chartered a private boat which allows us some flexibility in stops. The boat driver was quite indulgent this time, intentionally making high-speed turns for the kids! The great part is as part of a UNESCO site, the eagle feeding is now limited to 100g of food so that the eagles do not grow dependent on human feeding and can fend for themselves. We stopped at the private beach which got a bit crowded considering we went on a long-weekend. Sadly though, the Geoforest Park Discovery Center was closed. I feel the center should be at least minimally staffed during daylight hours.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 4, 2023
- Hein S51 contributionsbest tripA nice tour on a boat where you get to visit a cave ( on foot) with bats, see lots of monkeys, eagles, other birds and enjoy the nice view. our boat was going really fast sometimes, but another boat with friends didnt because 1 woman was a bit afraid, so they keep that in mind. The tour also follows the coast a bit in the open sea and you get to sim at a beach for a bit.A nice experience that took about 4 - 5 hours. It statrted raining while we were on the open sea, but that even made the experience better because of the fog and the rain in the distance.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 25, 2023
- Haytham Abu FirasQatar14,444 contributionsPart of Mangroves TourWe did the Mangroves Tour with H.S.A, a professional who made our day. Apart from that tour was eagle feeding where we stopped in the middle of the water surrounded by greenery mountains, monkeys jumping here and there and watching eagles finding their way to the food. The beauty of nature and the ecosystem in this area is awesome. If time allows, I want to spend more and more time watching the beauty of nature.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 28, 2023

It was an incredible 2-hour cruise passing through mangrove and caves. Our boat man made sure we wore life jackets on the boat and was knowledgable about the places we visited. I enjoyed the eagles the most. Thank you Mr Boatman!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 17, 2023

Boats have capacity of 10 people for private tour but they did not allow 2 of us to join another group we met there. Money grab operation at Kilim geoforest by the boat operators.

Public boat price as per website is 100RM, but the counter lady wants 150 per person.
DO NOT BOOK AT THE COUNTER AT ALL. PRICES ARE INFLATED.
Book 24 hour in advance with tour operator or with your hotel to get discounted prices. Actual prices for 2 hour is RM 200 full boat private tour.

The scenery is truly breathtaking as we take in the mesmerizing karst formations and the tranquility of the mangrove. However, our experience is marred by certain aspects that are not elderly-friendly, leaving us feeling somewhat deceived given the price we paid for a private boat tour.
Having shelled out RM300 for a 3-hour boat tour for my family of four, which includes my elderly parents, we were assigned to the boat "Farid 3," with a young local boy serving as both the boat operator and guide. The tour promised a 3-hour cruise to explore 2 caves, a fish farm, a beach, and eagle feeding.
Our first stop is the Bat Cave, where we marvel at shell fossils on the cave walls, indicative of the area's underwater past. Next is the so-called "fish farm," a floating facility resembling a restaurant with a few water cages containing fish for our "entertainment viewing" rather than actual commercial farming. After a brief introduction to the fish species, we are encouraged to order lunch, which we decline. We then proceed to the Crocodile Cave, eagle feeding, and a private beach strewn with trash, where we are allowed only a brief 20-minute stop at the beach. The entire trip feels rushed, with the boat speeding without consideration for our elderly parents, resulting in my dad spraining his back during the cruise.
Despite paying for a 3-hour tour, the experience concludes at just 2 hours and 15 minutes, as the operator hastily pushes us to the next point to complete the tour. Our requests to extend our time on the beach are denied, and when we ask to slow down for a more leisurely cruise, the boat speeds up again, hurrying us back to the jetty.
For those seeking a leisurely cruise with a knowledgeable guide to explore the natural wonders of the area, this experience may fall short. The guide, essentially a local boat operator, fails to deliver the advertised 3-hour tour, and it's crucial to prioritize the safety of elderly passengers. The guide's response, stating, "kita tidak tengok jam, kita ikut tempat yang lawat" ("we don't follow the hours, we follow the visiting points"), raises questions about the validity of selling the package based on hours.

This is an interesting motor boat trip on the rivers through the mangrove geoforest park, with various stops into the caves and a fish farm, where one could even stop for a meal. The boat stopped for us to see a large number of eagles swooping into the water to get their feed. We were also taken to the open Andaman sea where you get a good view of the forest looking back. Worth a visit.

Hi. I don't know if it's weird to ask but is there anything to explore here without renting a boat?

I can only endorse the previous response in saying the boat trip is the best way to see the spectacular forest. Private boat my recommendation as you can ask questions and it’s more personal. Our guide didn’t agree with the fish park but we stopped to see it briefly. Please don’t encourage the monkeys to approach the boats which some tours do.

Actually I booked through an agent office at Cenang beach were we did the Jet ski , so it includes hotel pick up next day and drop off + Deluxe lunch and almost 5 hours boat ride - the price per person was 120R but I paid 150 pp includeing the deluxe buffet. I found out that prices are almost within reasonable range and there is not that much to argue with - Just don't let the drivers arrange it for you ....
how much for the boat?

About RM240 for 2hr shared tour. You will need to pay much more if you were to book the whole boat for your own people.
It's really fun and the tour guide was professional.

Hi,
I would like to know whether it is better to do a Kayak tour or a speedboat tour of this place? I am visiting Langkawi from 10th to 14th of August.
May I know how much you guys paid for this? also if it's better to go in a speedboat or a Kayak. I think Kayak will be peaceful. Where did you buy the tickets from? Can these be pre ordered?

Our tour was organised w the Naturalist at Four Seasons as we were guests at the resort ..
It is advisable to take a riverboat cruise w a knowledgeable guide .. plse avoid the "touristy" packages tt incldes "feeding the eagles" ..
The riverboat cruise shd be abt RM 200 to RM 500 per pax ..
It is possible to kayak at yr own pace, but i eld recommend a guided tour as the kilim karst geoforest park spans 100 sqm ..
A good guide will be able to manouevre thru the mangrove swamps for u to catch sight of a good variety of wildlife, monitor lizards, macaaques, tree crabs & migratory birds, kite eagles ..
Look out for the colourful fiddler crabs .. a very pretty sight ..
Search for more info on the internet ... enjoy the kilim karst geoforest .. it is pretty amazing

We organised our tour ourselves but I am sure if you look on trip advisor you will find tour operators who will take you there (private or group). In any case, it is easy enough to do it yourself and cut the middle man.

Hi, I am going to Kilim Geopark with 8 adults and 1 child. I was wondering where should I buy the ticket for 3 hour tour to get an affordable price and nice package?

You can take the help from the hotel where you proper to stay. Otherwise you can request travel agent who booked rooms for you. The travel agent will arrange a vehicle for you to go to the Geopark and also help you to get ticket for the boat journey. In fact we were eight in number and could visit the park comfortably in a medium sized boat.

I bought the tickets directly at the ticket counter. For a group like this ask for a considerable discount!

Is it better to hire private boat from beach or from the jetty? Also is 3 hours too long? Was considering 2-3 hours. Also already going to Tanjung Rhu beach so wondering if worth going to Kilim Karst to get boat.

The 3 hours tour is definately not too long - I promise! On the 2 hours tour you will miss the Andaman Sea. Make sure all attractions like bat cave, crocodile cave, eagle feeding and fish farm are included! On the fish farm you can touch a stingray.

Hello, I am going here with 8 other people (9 of us in total). Two are young children (2 years and 5 years) and another is an older lady. Is the mangrove boat tour suitable? And does it include entry fee to the park? I'm not sure about the ticketing options for the park

The boat is suitable for 9 people and for all ages the fee doesn’t include the bat cave tour it has its own fees but not expensive and the food on floating restaurant is not included in the package. It was nice experience and I enjoyed the time and the kids love the adventure a lot.
