About
Over-the-Rhine is a historic neighborhood comprised of amazing structures both above and below the ground. Come and explore with us as we walk and ride the streetcar to major topside landmarks such as Findlay Market, Music Hall, Washington Park, and the location of the Miam-Erie Canal. We'll also learn about it's underground history as we stop by several places from above, including the pre-Prohibition lagering facility of the Lafayette Brewery and Cincinnati's abandoned subway system below Central Parkway. Then we'll go three stories underground, where the Gerke Brewery fermented and cold-stored their beer dating back to the 1850s. This requires guests to traverse a series of steep stairs and is not recommended for young children or those who have difficulty with stairs, but anyone in attendance is welcome to remain topside. Our journey concludes at a local taproom, where we'll have a pint or a soft drink, before returning to the Brewing Heritage Trail Tour Center.

Our tour guide made too many sexual comments and shared his political views way too often. He provided good information and personal antidotes, but the bad out water the good

I just re-read the tour description and do not feel all that is described is really covered. Yes you went by the Music Hall and Market and learned a little about it. I did learn about architecture and the brewery. The guide talked a lot about the breweries if that interests you. Most of the tour I felt I could have seen on line, virtual tour. I do not recommend it because it sure didn't give me all I expected from the description. The tour guide was informative but I was disappointed in the tour. Maybe because I had taken the city tour the previous day and learned so much more. Lots of walking.

Hi Barb, thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry to see that the tour did not meet your expectations. I'll be sure to have a word with your guide to make sure they are covering all of the necessary components of the tour, as this tour does have local beer history on it, but also many other historical components of the neighborhood. Thanks again for your feedback and I'll be sure to look into this issue.

I’ve done several walking tours in Cincinnati and this one was the least informative. Our guide seemed to ramble and was not engaging. The steps down into the lagering tunnel was very steep and long. Would be impossible for anyone with even the slightest mobility issue.Website states that tour ends at Sam Adam’s Brewery so that’s where we parked. It did not end there.

Hi Cindy, I apologize for the tour not being what you expected and I will be sure to pass your thoughts on to the guide for their benefit. We recently added a new location for pints at the end of the tour on Wednesdays to Jane's at Findlay Market, just a block from Sam Adams, but I neglected to update the description to reflect this change and will do so immediately. In regard to the stairs in and out of the lagering cellar, we describe them on the website as being three stories underground, very steep, and not recommended for guest who have difficulty with stairs, along with images of the them, as we want to be transparent about what is involved on our tours. However, I will re-examine the description to see if we can make it a little more clear. Thank you for your feedback and we will use it to make the necessary improvements to our tours.

Our experience here was riddled with sexist and inappropriate sexual comments & our guide’s (Frank?) political views. Throughout the tour, he made several savior-like comments about the residents in the area and made other remarks referring to healthcare, confederate statues, younger generations, and “draining the swamp”. This is in addition to the frequent comments about women’s bodies/appearances and being able to see through the clothes flappers wore during their time.

To top it all off, towards the end of the tour, he made a unnecessary comment about communism and Biden.

We understand that everyone has different political opinions and we respect that. With that being said, we, as tourists, paid for this tour to learn about the history of Cincinnati, and instead we’re rewarded with a two-hour lecture about this guy’s life story and political views.

Nevertheless, the tunnel at the end of the tour was super neat and was a nice chilly break from the hot sun. I would definitely recommend participating in this tour in the Spring or Fall, and with a different tour guide, you may have a completely different and better experience.

I am very sorry you had a bad experience on your tour. We strive to give a positive, educational, and fun tour. Bill’s comments did not do that and do not reflect the work we are doing to preserve our brewing heritage. This is not a matter we take lightly. Bill has lost his privilege of being a tour guide and will be no longer doing tours for us. We will be refunding your ticket price as a another step in making this right, we would also be happy to host you on another tour of your choosing. Please feel free to contact me directly with any additional comments or concerns. - Steven Hampton, Executive Director steve@brewingheritagetrail.org (513) 604-9812

An informative & fun tour! I’m a Cincinnati native, but I still learned a lot about my city. The underground beer cellar from the mid-1800s was definitely the highlight!
