Matanuska Glacier Hike from Anchorage
US$299.00
Overview
Embark on a moderate, 2-hour hike in Matanuska-Susitna Valley on this full-day tour from Anchorage. During your trek along Matanuska Glacier, pass dramatic blue meltwater pools and ice formations. Capture incredible views of the Alaska Range, the Talkeetna Mountains and the Chugach Mountains, and gain insight into the local geology from a seasoned guide. Finish the hike with a relaxing Alaskan lunch overlooking the glacier. This Matanuska glacier hike comes with gear, safety equipment and hotel transport.
What to Expect
Following morning pickup from your Anchorage hotel, board a comfortable tour vehicle and travel 35 miles (56 km) north to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Watch the scenery stream by out the windows and enjoy refreshments on the ride.

This valley, carved by glaciers, is the meeting place for 3 mountain ranges: the Chugach Mountains, the Talkeetna Mountains and the Alaska Range. The valley is home to thousands of rivers and lakes, left behind by the movement of the glacier.

Arrive at your destination, the 27-mile (43-km) Matanuska Glacier, to embark on your 2-hour hike. First, listen to a safety orientation and slip on your provided crampons and helmet and grab a walking stick. This equipment will help you safely explore the deep crevasses, ice formations and bright blue water-melt pools.

Follow your guide to the glacier's most important landmarks and viewpoints. Chances are you'll enjoy sunny skies due to the weather system created by the glacier.

Stop for a traditional Alaskan lunch with views overlooking the glacier.

At the conclusion of your glacial adventure, return to your Anchorage hotel for drop-off.

Please note: From October - April winter clothing is required to take part in this tour. Please arrange appropriate clothing with the local supplier in advance.
