About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Wonder420 contributionsNot worth the money for dinnerThe reasons we did not enjoy this was: you ate right away, before the boat started moving and you could not see the scenery. The entertainment was one man basically doing karaoke, and forgetting the words. This time of year at night was not the best time to go. Brunch would have been better. The food was fine. The scenery was industrial and interesting but not what I had thought. AND the boat was not a real paddle wheel. It was not what I thought a riverboat cruise would be, this was my fault for not researching well.Written November 13, 2024
- 276SharonC0 contributionsHorrible food & Too Much Party atmosphereThe food was the biggest disappointment. I didn’t enjoy any of it. We went up to the top deck for the views but the loud music was just not for us. If the food had been good I would have said it was worth the price but it wasn’t.Written October 25, 2024

Dinner buffet was ok but… Views were just beautiful. If you get to pass a container ship along the cruise take a video. It’s mind blowing. Entertainment was solid. - 193jonis0 contributionsWould not recommend for out-of-townersI had allowed myself plenty of time to go to Mass and drive to the waterfront, but finding a parking spot was a nightmare; finally found one of the last parking spots in a parking garage. Then I couldn't find the dock, the sign was hidden behind a hotel. Once I got on the boat I stood in line over 15 minutes just to get a beer. I would not recommend for tourists, it was all locals: couples or partying young girls, so not many interested in talking to a solo traveler. The DJ set himself up the top deck so those of us that were interested in enjoying an outdoor boat ride were relegated to the sides and front of the 3rd deck. And the paddle was fake!Written August 31, 2024

The buffet was very disappointing - food was not very good and I am not a picky eater. Even the dessert was bad. The entertainment was boring so we spent most of the cruise on the top deck just enjoying the ride.Written August 25, 2024

- Michelle A0 contributionsNot worth the moneyThis was an anniversary trip. I thought it would be nice to go on a dinner cruise while we were there. First the information I received was boarding started 30 minutes before the expected time. By the time we got onto the ship, people were already in line for the food and eating. We were seated and I’m sorry to say but the air conditioning was legit blowing right in the entire table. We asked if we could move, so our waitress who seemed a little clueless let us move a table back which didn’t help matters. We ordered drinks in which the waitress again, clueless, did not know the drinks we ordered which were on the menu. We went up to the buffet where most of the staff were extremely pleasant. Food looked delicious, until we actually sat down to eat it. The toasted potatoes were undercooked and still raw, same as the vegetables. The chicken was so dry you couldn’t even chew it, and at that point I was afraid to try anything else. The best was the peach cobbler which had some nice flavors to it. There was a 2 man band playing inside of which were pretty good and a dj played outside. As far as the cruise is concerned, the sunset was beautiful, and the cruise was meh. If you like history then some of the sights were nice but if you’re looking for romance then forget it. Towards the end of the cruise my husband and I were sitting in the bow area and saw a few dolphins, which completed the good part of this excursion. So, my opinion, don’t waste your money. It wasn’t worth what we paid. It was a big disappointment.Written August 18, 2024

The Savannah Riverboat Cruise, I recently took with my family, on The Georgia Queen was a disappointment and was overpriced. I had been wanting to ride on a steamboat/riverboat for years and was very excited to go on this sightseeing excursion. My son treated me to this tour and I hated to tell him how much I didn’t like it. The narrator for the cruise was far more interested in trying his hand at comedy than sharing information. I had expected the tour guide to start talking about the riverboat’s role in Savannah’s rich history or some information about the boat itself - guys love the specs. Perhaps giving some information about boats on the Savannah River 150 years ago, or even the role the River played in the growth of Savannah, would have saved the trip. Instead, we got to hear about the places to stay or eat along River Street and to make sure to include the “h” when we spelled Savannah. Some of the shore line is industrial and beyond their control, but it could have been salvaged with some history or engaging story telling. There was no correlation between the grandeur of the Riverboat and the city of Savannah. It was just an expensive boat ride. The guide did not seem professional in any form and did not represent the cruise company well. His attire was beyond casual and appeared sloppy; his delivery of information was poor at best; and his humor was not appreciated. We sat on the rooftop where there were a few umbrellas on tables on a warm, sunny afternoon. A fan would have been appreciated to just move some air. Sitting outside was our choice, but it could have been made a little more comfortable and just a little effort from the cruiseline. The only way to get any kind of refreshments was to stand in a long line on the 3rd deck that had one bartender. Many patrons spent much of the time below deck trying to get something to drink. That is not why one takes a sightseeing cruise. For the amount paid for the tickets, I think cups of water could easily have been available on both decks. Savannah Riverboat Cruises has missed an opportunity to make a “boat ride” a memorable, exciting, history filled and enjoyable experience. Instead it has provided our family, "buyer’s remorse" for spending that much money on a boat ride that we did not enjoy.

My daughter and I took this cruise, expecting a lot of older history but were pleasantly surprised how much information about Savannah today we learned! It is a huge boat and I think because of COVID only the third and fourth (fourth is the top deck, outside) decks were open, which was fine, because there was plenty of room! They ask you to arrive about an hour ahead of time, which gives them the opportunity to sell you food and beverages before even setting off! We started inside on the third deck, which is like a ballroom you would see in a hotel conference center - carpeted floors, ornate window drapes and chandeliers and tables (and booths) for seating (there was also an area that I imagine is for dancing at weddings and other chartered events). The bar offered casual fare (burgers, fries, Caesar salads, etc) and also had a full bar for drinks. We then went to the fourth deck outside for the tour. Again, even though they removed seats and tables for social distancing, there was still space for everyone and nothing felt crowded or uncomfortable. The narrator did a great job of story telling (The Waving Girl and the WWII shipyard) as well as being very informative about Savannah's recent developments in shipping and tourism and other things that give a much better sense of the nature of this city.

Overall, it was unimpressive. There wasn't anything particularly negative to give it a low score, but also nothing particularly positive. The boat boards on River St, which had the most to look at, and the rest was a view of tall grass, a few birds, and lots of run-down, rusted out boats and docks, and a tour guide who seemed to think the mic in his hand was an opportunity to practice his stand-up routine before taking it to a casino in Mississippi. This having been our first trip to Savannah, I can honestly say now that we could have learned the same information from one of the walking tours in the historic district just as easily, and with smaller groups of people.

Beautiful view! So much fun! My fiance and I just did the sunset riverboat cruise - not the dinner one. We brought our own snacks and bought drinks there and we were fine.
Note: it is a little chilly once the sun goes down, so dress for that.
We were on the top outside deck to get the best view. But... the DJ does play music and it felt more like a club scene than a quiet, romantic feel it had when the ship took off.
Masks were not enforced except when boarding. Social distancing was not possible when unboarding due to sheer number of people getting off at one time.
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and it was a great way to say good-bye to the city.

Not worth it. Travel half mile up river, turnaround and go one mile down river and return. That’s it. Boat ride, yes. Tour, no. I would more liken it to a floating over priced mediocre restaurant only to get worse as the narrator (Mr. Microphone) constantly blares away for the entire duration on the ‘’voyage’’.

This boat tour was not was we expected. We expected our guide to be somewhat entertaining, a few laughs, perhaps some interesting facts. Instead, it was dull, dull, dull, boring, staid, too expensive for what it was, and left us wishing we had done something, anything else with our hard earned $$.
We went on 6 walking tours, every one of them a good time and left us smiling, this one left us simply wanting to get off of the boat.
Would not recommend.

This was a great riverboat tour! I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews but I thought this was well worth the money. Our narrator was very knowledgeable and provided a great overview of the history of Savannah. We started out on the top deck and bought our drinks at the bar. We sat at a table with an umbrella, so with the breeze it wasn’t too terribly hot. We made our way inside to the air conditioning which was very comfortable. I found that you could hear the narrator much better inside. There was a convenient restroom there as well. We did see a few freight liners and the beautiful architecture of River St. We also saw some dolphins and even military aircraft overhead. I really wish we could have traveled further down the river as it was so pretty and such a beautiful day.
Just a note on parking: space near the river is limited. If you’re lucky you can find a spot along Bay St. We ended up parking in the Lincoln St. garage and there was plenty of space. It was about a 15 minute walk to the boat and cost $10 for the day.

It’s as if the ship’s management were surprised that 100s of people, who they sold tickets to, actually showed up and wanted a cold cocktail or small snack. Don’t be deceived by the high ratings on trip
Advisor, perhaps there is no competition or this was just an outlet. Cannot express how disappointed we were in that there was such an understaffed bar/ service area and lack of availability for what was on the menu. A few examples, none of the ship’s bar’s draft beer was operational, the majority of the bottle beer was not available or it ran out and the frozen drinks on the fourth deck bar were not working before the ship even sailed, and food was taking 45 minutes from order to delivery. Because of the understaffing spent more time in line than enjoying the view. Departed late, people were boarding well past waited 1pm and should have trusted my intuition that said get off the boat before it started as the above was evident before we sailed. Here’s a thought- put a beer/wine/soda kiosk in the corner of each ballroom. Easy. Make it more accessible for those in wheelchairs - I saw folks waiting for 20 plus minutes for an elevator. Oh, and how about actually stocking what was listed on the overpriced tourist menu. I expect to pay premium dollars for a drink, but would love it if you actually stocked what was advertised. On the positive side: the staff was excellent. But overworked and hustling to handle the huge lines and crowd. Total waste of time. Take the ferry up/down the river for a fraction of the price and grab a beverage before or after. The captain gave a great tour, and the overworked bar tenders were doing the best they could with a positive attitude as the pressed through the masses in line.

This evaluation would have earned one star but since the company was gracious enough to partially reimburse me, I'll up it a star.
I pay for tours for one reason only - TO LEARN! (Not for the comfy bus, leisurely stroll or the fun boat ride) I want enrichment.
We boarded early so that we would get really good seats. As we boarded the boat I ask TWO different crew members if I would be able to hear anywhere on the top deck. The answers were affirmative both times.. So, we selected seats in the front of the boat.
Guess what. There were no loud speakers in the front of the boat.By the time we realized this, were basically stuck because our food was being delivered to where we were and there were no more available seats where the microphoned guide was narrating. I approached him and asked if he would mind wandering toward the front so the folks in that part of the boat could also enjoy the tour. He agreed to but never budged. Finally, roughly 40 minutes into this 90 minute tour we were able to get seats near the guide. Not long after that, he announced that he was going on a break that must have lasted 10 or 15 minutes. The tour was only 90 minutes! I have worked on and off as a tour guide over the years. Leaving a short tour for that length of time is unthinkable. At the conclusion as he stood waiting for tips, I mentioned that he never made it to the front of the boat. I received a flippant "sorry" as a response.
What a total waste of my time and money. Since this was probably the only chance I'll ever have to visit Savannah and learn first hand about it, I am so very disappointed.

HOW LOW CAN YOU GO??? What a frickin rip off!! Authentic riverboat my rear end!!! The damn boat is prp driven with a mocked up paddle wheel mounted on the back!! Also their website failed to mention that there is no place to park a 25' motorhome in the area. As a result I spent 90 minutes looking for parking only to end up in a parking lot with a group of locals looking to get their weekend in gear at the dockside watering hole that were rude as hell. After nearly getting into an altercation with one of them for trying to cut in front of me to take a parking spot I watched the boat leave only to realize my RV would not fit in that spot either. I finally found the office for the boat company only to have the manager refer me back to agency that sold me the tickets and infer that I was somehow responsible because all the other passengers had somehow found parking. However she she didn't like me raising my voice to defend myself to ask if they were all driving 25' long RVs. Likely because she was embarrassed!! I personally would not recommend visiting any place in the area, the people are rude disrespectful and completely unappreciative or deserving of your business. Take your hard earned money and spend it where you will be appreciated and have fun.😊
