With a group for company, you learn about the church’s history, as well as the famous names who once frequented it (and who still rest in its catacombs), including the first resident bishop of New York City. The tour includes the rare opportunity to explore the catacombs, as well as other areas of the landmark that are normally barred to visitors. On the tour, discover the church’s pipe organ, tour its two walled cemeteries, explore the choir loft, and more. As you go, your guide will share stories about its place in New York history.

      Fun and Informative!
We had been meaning to take this tour for a while, and it didn't disappoint! Ramona was a fantastic tour guide and tailored the tour to our interests, using specialty knowledge of hers (music publishing and entertainment history). It would have taken extensive research to find out some of the things we learned on this tour, and instead we had a nice day outside! Thanks Ramona!

A guided walking tour of this area was a great choice for our group.
We had a wonderful experience on this walking tour with Ramona as our guide. She was truly knowledgeable and informative about this area and she had a fun personality that added to the New York experience. If we had walked these streets on our own, we would not have had the feeling of understanding the history in the same way, if we had not been with a walking tour. This tour company was very good about keeping in touch with us and making sure we met up with our guide at the right place and the right time. We would love to do more tours with this company. We were a Grandmother, daughter and two 13 yr old granddaughters, and everyone enjoyed the afternoon.

DON’T MISS a truly authentic and “non- tourist” tour in New York
We did the Chinatown Official Walking Tour together with Ramona, a fantastic guide who was able to make us experience and relive the atmosphere and history of one of the most fascinating neighborhoods in New York: Chinatown. If you want to discover a truly authentic and history-filled part of the city you can't miss this tour. RAMONA really super prepared and full of passion!

      Fascinating history tour
Ramona was an excellent guide. Knowledgeable, interesting, accommodating. It was only me on the tour in the end (it was very cold). She answered all my question and I had a lovely afternoon.

The Bowery Tour - tommysnewyork - Ramona Tour Guide
Ramona was a great tour guide for the Bowery Tour (tommysnewyork) She dressed in period clothes for the tour which was fun. What impressed me most was Ramona's absolute enthusiasm when speaking about the area. She is well spoken & obviously knows her history. It was a pleasure to learn so much from someone who has a joy speaking about it. Great job Ramona!

The most fascinating tour you'll take in NYC!
This tour does the Bowery justice! The guide was very in depth and well researched. You won't regret taking this tour and having plenty of lesser known history to tell your friends.

      Walking tours of NYC
There are many walking tours of NYC, but Tommy’s New York is excellent. So far, we have taken the Catacombs tour, Little Italy and Chinatown. We have been more than fortunate to have Dan as our tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the areas that we covered, and he made the one and a half hour tours so enjoyable. We highly recommend using this company.

      Very disappointed
Our tour was run through Tommy’s NY Doing 3.2km walking in 35 degree over two hours was a big ask. Our tour guide was Robert. He was a big flop. No personality. Walked way too fast . Our tour started with say 12 and ended with 2. I had heard great things about this tour but our one was a big flop. We have done other tours in the heat but the guide has us hanging on every word so we stuck around . But this was an absolute waste of our time

      Historical trip around Little Italy
We want on a cvisit of Little Italy with our guide Dan 28th May. The tour was clear and easy to understand for foreigner. We were able to learn a lot about the history of the district itself abut local shop owners and were given tips on where to find good food addresses. Overall the tour gave us a good feeling of what it would have been like to live in the area a few decades ago and was full of interesting stories about local larger than life figures. Well worth the money and an excellent way to get to know New York in more depth.

Dan was my guide and he was very insightful about the history and knowledge of the neighbourhood. I went to the Little Italy tour which Dan was also my tour guide, there were some overlaps but he was just as insightful

Our tour guide (Brittany) was amazing! She has a GREAT personality, and was a font of interesting information. She was very friendly and super engaging. One of the better tour guides we've experienced, and we've done a lot of tours. (Thank you Brittany).

Unfortunately, the physical environment was a complete let down. Brittany had to work really hard, to make the tour interesting. (Not her fault at all).

Tommy's write up labels it as a "New York landmark", and it is.
While it's the LESSER of the two St. Patrick’s Cathedrals as far as hierarchy goes, admittedly, the inside of the cathedral was visually appealing, seeing the organ, learning about its provenance was interesting, and hearing our tour guides tidbits about the period was fascinating.

But then disappointingly... the "candlelight" was not candlelight. They gifted us each a small, weak, plastic light bulb in the shape of a candle. Immediate buzz kill.
And the "catacombs" are really just underground walkways - devoid of character and lacking in romance. Dull.
Per Tommy's write up: “…parts of the building that are normally closed to visitors…”. Well, honestly they could stay closed to the public and no one would miss them.
After having toured Europe extensively, this felt like NYC having to dig deep to try to offer anything to compare.
    I felt a bit cheated.
If it wasn't for Brittany's interesting input throughout, I would have left well before the end of the tour.

Leo the tour guide did an excellent job of leading a group of 40 to learn about the church and the history of people buried in the catacombs. Loved the story of John the Dagger who was devout in defending his parishioners in 1842 against large mobs. Inside of Church is so beautiful. Enjoyed viewing the original pipe organ with 252 pipes. Learned that the phrase “Pulling out all the stops” came from the use of the organ.

This tour was a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon! Even as a native New Yorker, there were still so many things I got to learn about the city’s history. I especially appreciated the connections I could make to my own Irish Catholic roots. But whether you know a lot about NYC history and Catholicism, or nothing at all, there will be something for you to learn and take away from this tour. Our tour guide, Dan did a great job of keeping our group engaged and laughing throughout our 90-minute tour. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable, which made the experience all the better! I would definitely recommend this tour to friends and family who want to learn more about an interesting slice of New York City’s history!

My boyfriend and I were looking to do something in the city without losing an entire day or our pocketbooks. Dan did a phenomenal job walking us through the history of the city as it developed including the battle for space and land from the various Catholic, and other, populations that immigrated into NY.
We had a small tour of four of us, so the space in the actual catacombs was manageable to practice Covid distancing. About 1/2 of the tour was above ground in the church, the original St Patricks, not the Cathedral (you'll find out more on the tour), and 1/2 under the church in the catacombs. The "candlelight" is actually a manual battery-powered candle that you take with you.
An absolute Do-Again with a ton of knowledge of the city's past and present.
Make sure to note the tour is of the original St Patrick's, not the Cathedral in Mid-town.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this historic walking tour. Nick was an outstanding guide and we both learned a lot about the church and the area surrounding it, especially the history of that area of NYC back in the days of the gangs and the changing immigrant populations. The church was beautiful and the behind the scenes look at the organ and exploring the catacombs was very unique. I highly recommend this tour.

This 1.5 hour tour is rich with early history of immigrant New York City and the role of Old St. Pat’s Cathedral in lower Manhattan and the Catholic church in the 1840’s through the present. A beautiful church with a fabulous organ, and a churchyard and catacombs that house the remains of people who shaped New York. You don’t have to be Catholic to enjoy this enchanting story and beautiful cathedral, the precursor to the St. Patrick’s in midtown. Our tour guide, Brittany, was knowledgeable , enthusiastic and delightful. A must see venue if you love beautiful churches, fascinating stories and catacombs and graves with mysterious secrets from the early history of New York City.

It was an interesting tour around the catacombs using candlelights. Kyle, our guide, tried to make it funny while he was retelling the story of the families that are buried there. It deals with a bit of history in a funny and enchanting way.

The tour was rich with detail, well choreographed for the variety of spaces and just all around fascinating to experience so much history hidden away in a busy part of the city. Our tour guide was incredibly informed, humorous, and engaging throughout the 90 min. He was thorough and diligent in answering all our questions. What a great way to spend a fall afternoon!

So we grab a cab from Katz's deli worried that we are going to miss our tour and get there just in time to get our temperatures checked and our tickets scanned! We love the tour! Our guide was an expert and spoke loudly enough that our large group could hear him as we began outside and then moved inside. We knew some about the catholic church but appreciated the history of all of the nationalities that built lives around this old cathedral. If you get the City Pass, this is definitely a great stop and is within walking distance of Lombardi's where we walked after the tour.

This tour is incredibly interesting! It highlights the history of the Irish immigrants and their place in NYC, and it lets you see some beautiful architecture. My tour guide, Kyle, has hilarious and very knowledgeable. Anytime he could make a pun, he did - and it was so funny. He was always ready to answer questions and was very talkative even after the tour. I would highly recommend this tour!
