What to expect
  • When you arrive at either the Fisherman’s Wharf or Union Square location to pick up your bike, a staff member will provide you with a safety orientation so that you feel comfortable with your new ride. Here, you can also familiarize yourself with some of the city’s numerous cycling routes. You’ll have a range of bicycles to choose from, including a comfort hybrid or mountain bike, tandem or electric, and kids’ bicycles are also available. A helmet, bike lock, bike bell and rear rack (along with a bungee cord for securing backpacks) are all provided, as well as a city map complete with layouts of San Francisco cycling routes. Once you’re all geared up, it’s time to start exploring! If you’re leaving from Fisherman’s Wharf, you can follow a mostly flat route that meanders along San Francisco Bay into Fort Mason, continuing through the Marina and into the Presidio, where you’ll reach historic Fort Point. From here, it’s an upward (though well worth it) climb to the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers fantastic views of the San Francisco skyline, as well as Alcatraz and Angel Island. Once across the bridge, enjoy a downhill roll into Sausalito, a lovely seaside town. You can also continue on into Tiburon or Mill Valley, home to some of California’s iconic redwood trees. For your return trip, choose between the Golden Gate Bridge or a scenic ferry ride from either Sausalito or Tiburon. For a similar route from Union Square, ride east along the Embarcadero, past the triangle Transamerica Pyramid and Coit Tower, a 210-foot-tall monument rising from atop Telegraph Hill. From here, you can hook up with the Fisherman’s Wharf path that leads to the Golden Gate Bridge. Another Union Square option is venturing west along Market Street to ‘The Wiggle,’ one of the city’s most popular bike routes since it bypasses numerous hills for a flat ride into Golden Gate Park. At the corner of Scott and Fell streets, consider taking a one-block detour north to Alamo Square. The eastern side of this well-known park is home to the Victorian ‘Painted Ladies,’ beyond which is one of the city’s prettiest views of the SF skyline. Snap a pic, then continue onto into Golden Gate Park, past the Conservatory of Flowers and the park’s resident buffalo, eventually making your way to the Pacific Ocean. The bike is yours for a full 24 hours, so feel free to continue exploring on your own. There’s plenty to see, from San Francisco’s vibrant North Beach neighborhood to the Mission District, where a burrito stop is definitely in order. Return your bike to the same location where you picked it up.

Great Rental Bikes
Sep 2021
We rented bikes and then explored the city on our own. I think most people do the bridge tour and take the ferry back, but we wanted to do our own thing. It was a great experience and the bikes were solid and well maintained. The rental process was very fast and easy and there were plenty of bikes.

Exercise with a view
We had a wonderful but exhausting time biking over the Golden Gate Bridge. As 60 somethings, we wished we had an electric bike, but we made it to Sausalito! We had a sunny day so the pictures and views were good. The staff at Blazing Saddles were very good as well.

Bike over the Golden Gate Bridge and take the ferry back
Sep 2021 • Family
Loved being able to see the Golden Gate Bridge from the bike. We were able to stop and take pictures along the way and then we had lunch in Sausalito and took the ferry back. A must for anyone visiting San Francisco.

Join the party
Aug 2021
What a great way to experience this city and the surrounding area of Sausalito. The staff at Blazing Saddles were having more fun than you can imagine. They were happy, excited to help customers, thorough, accommodating and competent. It was like they were having a party in the midst of doing business. What a great corporate culture!! When we returned, the entire staff cheered us "across the finish line."

We rode our bikes over to Sausalito and back again. The ride was spectacular even though the weather was pretty awful: cold, misty and high winds. Nevertheless, we prevailed. Lesson: wear the appropriate clothes, especially layers and gloves.

We got lost on the way back while trying to find the bridge entrance so get detailed instructions on what to do. Some of the signage is confusing (not the fault of Blazing Saddles) but perhaps they can sketch out a map for that end of the trip for you. Thankfully other bikers helped us find our way.

We rode for 6 full hours on the e bikes. Mine worked flawlessly but my husband's wasn't so cooperative, perhaps not fully charged? We reported that and hopefully it has been repaired.

Enjoy the ride!!

Bike over the Golden Gate to Sausalito
Aug 2021 • Family
Great option to see bridge and waterfront. A few steep hills in places on way to bridge but this is San Francisco after all... busy in a few spots but we found areas to pull off and take in the views. Highly recommend riding boat back from Sausalito. Great way to make a round trip.

Aron, sounds like you had a great experience biking the bridge and returning on the ferry! It's still one of my favorite things to do in San Francisco as well.

Golden Gate Bridge Bike Ride - There and Back!
Jul 2021
My husband and I have rented bikes before and they were good but Blazing Saddles bikes were GREAT! The quality and condition were up to par for our family bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. So good that my 15 and 12 year old chose to ride back across from Sausalito. We had a great lunch at the Joinery on the island and then journeyed back, totaling 20 miles. Price was right, information was good, and don't mind the amazing weather! FYI....put some sunscreen on your face or wear a hat, you didn't feel the burn until you got home!

SF Bike Ride Over Golden Gate
Jul 2021
Cycled twice last week and Xenia is awesome! Very customer friendly and informative. On one outing Xenia said after you bike over the Golden Gate bridge the sun would be shining down in Sausalito, and sure enough it was. We've rented bikes before from our friends at Blazing Saddles, always a good time!

Harder than they advertise
Jul 2021 • Family
My family and I rented 5 bikes to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. Staff was friendly, but directions seemed rushed and we realized quickly that the directions provided were insufficient. We were constantly stopping to look at the map, turning around or confused about which way to go. Construction blocked the path many times and caused us to detour. What was described as mostly a flat ride was anything but. Lots of up hill riding just trying to get to the bridge. Once over the bridges and before you enter the town - more up hills! We don’t mind a challenge, just wish we had been well informed by the staff before we left. Bring lots of water. This is a challenging and exhausting ride!

Hello, Sounds like you had a great ride and felt very accomplished afterwards. Sorry if our directions were rushed, we would have been happy to slow down for you. The bike path is mostly flat getting to the bridge, and you can upgrade to electric bikes next time to make it even more fun. Thanks!

Lack of Information Left Us Stranded
Jun 2021 • Friends
Renting the bikes was easy and laid back. Had a great time biking the bridge to Sausalito, however we had a significant lack of information regarding the ferry returning to San Francisco. The employees who rented us the bikes neglected to inform us that the last ferry left at 5pm, leading us to miss this ferry and become stranded in Sausalito trying to find our own way back This now required us to purchase additional transportation, with little to no options, in addition to the fee to leave the bike in Sausalito. We inquired much more of an expense than we anticipated due to this lack of information, (we would have planned accordingly had we known the last ferry departure
time) and the woman we spoke to on the phone provided no help or consolation. Not a great way to end the day after a great experience in the little town. Very disappointed.

Hello, I am so sorry that there was a miscommunication about the ferry schedules. The last ferry out of Sausalito is actually at 7pm and the ferry companies have a great policy if never leaving anyone stranded. We'd love for you to come back and give the experience another try sometime soon!
