We did the Taste of downtown Memphis tour with Taylor. She was very knowledgeable and provided lots of interesting facts about Memphis and some good recommendations for restaurants to try. We were advised to 'come' hungry but if I'm honest we left still feeling hungry. For the cost of the tour we did not think enough food was provided. The hamburger at Dyers was lovely but we were each given a small quarter to eat along with half a cup of milkshake. I realise this is meant to be just a 'taster' rather than a full meal but for the amount we paid sadly we did not feel overall it was good value for money.

I took the BBQ TOUR around Memphis w/ Harper and it was absolutely amazing!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Harper. Even though it was a very small tour Harper was very attentive and had so much depth to every single thing we went through. He made the experience memorable, my fiance enjoyed trying so many different versions of barbecue we had never thought about before. And for me, I enjoyed listening to the detail and beautiful history of Memphis... and even if i want to deny it, the ribs he gave us were to die for!! I would recommend to anyone that even thinks of venturing off to Memphis they need to book this tour because Harper gives his wonderful charisma and delicious food to everyone in the tour. Once I go back to Memphis I will definitely book another tour, it was a wonderful memorable experience and worth the price. I will do it again once I am back in Memphis!! Thank you Harper!!

This was a fantastic way to experience Memphis for us, a family of three on a two day stop on our road trip! We enjoyed the relaxed walking around downtown with Harper, who was a fountain of knowledge of not only BBQ, but also the city. It was also a very nice to spend some time to get to know the other guests on the tour, and of course to taste some great food at different locations! Dry rub, wet rub, nachos.. yummy!

Well, we booked the Taste of Downtown Memphis Tour mainly because my husband was on crutches and could not walk the distance of the BBQ tour.
We arrived with 2 other couples to the meeting point. (Later transpired that 4 of us were on the Downtown tour with Taylor and one other couple were on the BBQ tour with her father).
Unfortunately there had been a personal emergency which transpired in Taylor not arriving and I think her dad tried to make the best of a bad situation. Certainly these unfortunate things happen and my review is not about that per se (and I hope all is now well) but about how it was handled and I hope this review provides constructive feedback to the operators ( Taylor’s dad) for next time.
We were also in the unique situation of my husband being on crutches.
What happened was that Taylor’s father arrived and was visibly annoyed that there were 3 couples when he was expecting 1, and he had a go at my husband for booking the tour and asked “can he walk 4 miles?” when the tour we booked was a considerably shorter distance. He later confirmed that we wouldn’t have to walk that far as we would be sticking to the Beale Street area. He told us all that Taylor was running late and would meet us at the first stop. But first, he took the first couple away for a tasting of something in the lobby and told the rest of us to wait for 15 minutes whilst he did that.
We kept thinking Taylor was joining us shortly and we would start our tour, but without any communication he just took us all on the BBQ tour which involved 4 miles of walking. As we walked further and further away from Beale Street totally confused about what was happening. and my husband was struggling, we had to ask what was going on. The response was “you are on this tour with me now”’. He then made some modifications after we explained that my husband was struggling with the distance of what we are now doing.
In fairness, the stops were great, Taylor’s dad was a nice guy and was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed the other couples’ company. I can see if you booked the BBQ tour, then you would have had a great time. There is certainly enough food on the tour - you will not go hungry and we would recommend doing this on your first day in Memphis.
I appreciate that it was a stressful for Taylor’s dad, and he tried to make the best of a bad situation. But honesty is always the best policy. If he had been honest at the start that something must have happened (because emergencies do happen and we can all understand that) and asked if we wanted to cancel/refund or change tours then that would have been the right approach (for anyone really, even if they weren’t on crutches and unable to easily walk 4 miles). And when the tour ended, he took a group photo and said he would email this to us along with a list of recommended dining options. We never received this.
It has the makings of a great business model, with some communication improvements when things do go awry. We did have a nice time, but probably would have cancelled if we had been given the option.

We had a fabulous time being squired around downtown with Harper. His personal experiences as a Memphian as well as his historical insight made a delectable experience even tastier! He was a great host and was greeted warmly at every establishment, making us feel welcome as well. Worth every penny. My suggestion is this: do this tour early in your Memphis trip so you will have time to fully enjoy all the restaurants you were exposed to!

We did the Taste of Downtown Memphis tour and it was great! I got a call and text from the owner that our guide was sick and couldn’t make the 11am tour we booked but she offered that we could reschedule for a special noon tour or join the regular 2pm tour. We chose the noon trip tour and out guide was the owner’s father! And the tour was just with the two of us. It was a blast!
We went to Blues City BBQ, SOB, Central BBQ, Rum Boogie Café, and ended at Dyer’s Burgers, plus a chance to see the Walk of Fame at Silky’s. We ended up skipping dinner that night—we were so full! The food was excellent and all included if you want an alcoholic drink, you paid for that on your own. Our guide gave us a detailed in-depth review of not just Memphis food but also culture and history. You cover Beale Street but areas down to the Civil Rights Museum. You’ll also get recommendations for restaurants over and above the ones on the tour plus local attractions. He even took our picture a couple times and texted them to us!
We’ve done many food tours and this is the best in country! Sign up and bring your appetite!

Harper was awesome, he showed us around town while introducing us to the amazing food Memphis has to offer. Harper is very knowledgeable in the history of Memphis and can tell you a lot about how Memphis came to be, as well as the history of ribs and how they came to have such a large presence in the city. Absolutely worth doing, whether you only have one day or multiple, it is a must-try!

Harper was a great tour guide. He introduced to us not only the food but also the background, the history and flavor of Memphis. He injected so much enthusiasm and passion about the city of Memphis, you cannot help but falling in love with the city and its food. The food at each of the stops was fantastic. We will be coming back with our grown children (will take them on the tour as well). A great tour to sign up for getting to know Memphis.

Great food. Enjoyed hearing about the food, as well as the history of the restaurants we visited. One restaurant had guitars from every major artist you can imagine on the walls!
The only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 was that the guide was a little bit irritating. She must’ve said “y’all” 50 times and it just got annoying. (Taylor Goode)

Make sure you do this tour while you are in Memphis, especially if it is your first time there! We did the BBQ tour and between the variety of BBQ , the tour of the city, and hospitality this tour is a fantastic value and great way to spend an afternoon getting acquainted with Memphis. Also, we hit at least 4 places(not on the tour) that were recommended visiting (food and attractions) and they were all spot on, and made our stay even more enjoyable. Do yourself a favor and take the tour, you will not be disappointed!

Hello
We are wanting to do the tour, I realize walking is involved, could you tell me how often we stop at a restaurant? My mom has some trouble walking but would love to go.
Could you put my friend and I on a waitlist for sat and sun of labor day weekend? Thank you
