Overview
See the historic city of Charleston from a historic transportation method—by horse-drawn carriage. You’ll pass by old homes, see decorative ironwork, and learn the history behind city attractions. With a historic Charleston carriage tour departing every 30 minutes, it’s easy to fit this guided tour into your sightseeing itinerary. Plus, meeting at the stables gives you more time to interact with the horses, too.
Highlights
  • See Charleston just like people did more than 300 years ago—by carriage
  • Learn history as your guide tells stories about the city’s past
  • Get to interact with the horses at the stable
  • Traverse up to 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) of the historic area without walking
  • Children two and under are free when they sit on a parent's lap
What to Expect
For this carriage tour, meet in Charleston's historic district at 20 Anson Street, in the stable opposite Market Street, and get ready to experience the streets the same way as those of the past did—by horse-drawn carriage. Carriages leave for this guided tour every 30 minutes, and you’ll want to check in 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time to turn in your voucher. There is a horse stable at the start of the tour, which you can explore before or after your tour. Enjoy the views of the historic city from your carriage as your guide, licensed by the city, points out important landmarks and attractions and tells stories from the past. You’ll travel through Charleston’s historic district and cover three to four miles (4.8 to 6.4 kilometers) of its scenic streets. Your Charleston historical tour ends back where it started—at 20 Anson Street.

I was impressed right from the start. Our tour guide Blake hugged his horse Donald and pressed his head against Donald’s and talking quietly to him, telling him this was the last ride of the day. The stable was clean, Donald and the the other horses clean and well-groomed, and

The tour was amazing and fun! We had Trevor as our horse, I cannot remember the gentleman who drove us, but he was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. I would recommend anyone to take this type of tour especially from Charleston Carriage Works.

On a beautiful day in Charleston, we decided to take a carriage ride. Great sense of humour Al made this an enjoyable tour of old Charleston, while Gary, the horse, skillfully guided us through the streets. We learned a lot, and laughed a lot as we meandered through the narrow

Very knowledgeable tour guide. Beautiful homes and fascinating history of the city and the area. Comfortable ride. You can meet your Belgian Draft Horse before the ride. Very friendly horses and love to be scratched on the nose.

We picked this company because of the good reviews on TA. They didn’t disappoint. Our driver, I think his name was Blake, kept us entertained the whole time. His knowledge of Charleston and his jokes made the tour enjoyable. This is one of the smaller companies doing carriage
