Overview
Experience the Louisiana bayou outside of New Orleans on this airboat ride near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
    Stop: 2 hours -
Drive-out approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience. Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your flat-bottomed airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees and your pilot points out a stunning variety of wildlife. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording you amazing photo opportunities. Also keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Your morning or afternoon airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators — including an albino alligator — before making your way back to downtown New Orleans on your own. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless hotel pickup and drop-off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop-off please specify your hotel details in the 'special requirements' field at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.

What to Expect
When booking, customize this tour to fit your schedule. You can choose from morning or afternoon departures; self-drive to the town of Jean Lafitte; or bus pickup at your New Orleans hotel. Once you arrive at the launch site, step aboard your airboat (small boats accommodate six to eight passengers; large boats are limited to 25). Hold on to your seat as the fast, light boat takes off through the tidewater cypress swamp, which borders Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The flat-bottom airboat allows access to even the shallowest of water, where many tidal birds and swamp creatures make their homes. Your guide narrates the sights, such as tupelo-gum trees and cypress trees covered with moss, as you whip through the water. Learn about the bayou’s native creatures, such as nutria, snakes, turtles, and alligators. Back in Jean Lafitte, stop by the albino alligator exhibit or grab some food before leaving.

I really liked this trip. We saw lots of alligators & beautiful scenery. It was also more fun than a slow boat. I took one star off because two passengers in the front of the boat smoked & vaped during the tour & the tour guide didn't say anything to them. I asked the dudes to

The airboat ride was truly an enjoyable experience. We took one of the large air boats (roughly 16 people) and did a basic ride. It was a little over an hour long and we saw wildlife, different swamp environments, and essentially fooled around. The captain was great. My

We booked this through our hotel, Hilton Garden Inn French Quarter. We booked the small boat. There were 8 people on this boat. The Captain, Greg, gave us a great ride and narrative of the area. We saw gators, eagles, and raccoons. The water ways were a wonder on their own.

Richie was a great guide! He was very knowledgeable and funny too. He got us up close to some gators even when it was still a little chilly out. We would have been happy with 1 or 2 but saw over 10. We learned a lot about the area and other wildlife as well. Thanks for an
