    Chicago Chinatown
    Stop: 3 hours
Highlights of your tour include: Wentworth Avenue, the main artery of Chicago’s Chinatown district, and home to some of the most popular shopping and dining in the area. Cantonese cuisine comes from the southeastern region of Guangdong, formerly known as Canton. The Cantonese were some of the first Chinese to emigrate to the United States and their influence is seen in most American Chinese restaurants today. Dim sum is a traditional Cantonese appetizer, served in small bite-sized portions in steamer baskets. When paired with tea, dim sum makes for a complete Chinese brunch. Chinese tea, the other component of a dim sum brunch, is world-famous. China has been growing tea leaves for centuries and has a rich tradition of refined tea flavors. Portuguese-Chinese bakery treats come from the Portuguese Macau territory of China, and combine traditional and colonial flavors. Xi’an cuisine comes from the northwestern city of Xi’an, one of China’s ancient dynastic capitals. It is rare in the United States, a special delicacy in Chicago’s Chinatown. Lao Sze Chuan is one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in the United States, opened by celebrity chef Tony Hu, who is lovingly regarded as the unofficial mayor of Chicago’s Chinatown. Sichuan chicken is made with famous Sichuan chili peppers, which are popular in dishes from every region of China. Chinatown Square is a two-story outdoor mall in the center of Chicago’s Chinatown, packed with popular shopping and dining. Mongolian hot pot centers on a large cauldron of broth placed in the center of the table. Once the broth comes to a boil guests dip thinly sliced meats and vegetables in the broth then pair with dipping sauce for a truly unique culinary experience.

Fun, easy walk, and of course delicious food!
May 2021
Teddy was an incredible tour guide - knowledgeable, fun, and engaging. The tour members were all great, too. Plus, amazing food and restaurants I would never know about. I'm a big eater and thought I was going to leave hungry. But I was totally full. I did the drink package which was nice - plum wine, a beer and boba drink. The only drawback was that I had the three drinks at the first three restaurants. It would have been nice to spread them out. Take this tour and hope you get Teddy as your guide!

Great Guide but unexpected food choices
May 2021
Teddy was absolutely wonderful. I love Chinese cuisine and have enjoyed much in the city of Chicago including amazing sushi in Printers Row area, but....the food choices at each of the five stops were unusual and not great. The garlic eggplant at the 1st stop was good but would have loved a meat option, not really a veggie lover, then the dumplings at the next stop were again good, but not great and the one wasn't cooked thru and I couldn't eat it, then we went to the 3rd stop and although they had pics of kabobs and rice & noodle dishes that looked amazing, we got a lamb sandwich (I would expect that on a Greek food tour, but didn't like it here), the sandwich wasn't hot or even warm and would make me not want to return to that restaurant at all, then we had a dessert stop which was a delicious custard type pie and the other items that I purchased there were awesome as well, then we finished at yummy, yummy and the beef noodle soup was delish, but I feel that should have been the 4th stop and ended with the dessert stop. there were so many incredible smelling restaurants that we walked past and I was waiting for more traditional type Chinese cuisine. I've been on 3 other Chicagoland food tours and this was the most disappointing and I went into it thinking it would be by far the best. I think you need to reconsider which restaurants are on the stops and maybe have some different food choices. Teddy made it really fun and interesting and the other people we were with were great too.

Worst Ever!
If only I could give a zero rating!

Paid extra for beverages and we weren’t able to get them as 2 of the tour stops were closed. I called their management and was told it be at least 30 days to get a partial refund! Unacceptable!

The foos stops we made weren’t even mediocre! Food was not good at all.

But most important and as disappointing is that I had to remind the tour guide about social distancing while we ate!

Don’t waste your money or time!

Hi Vida, as mentioned during our calls/emails, we are sorry that one of our restaurant partners unfortunately closed the day of your tour without notifying us prior to the tour. We were just as surprised and upset as you were. Strike that, you sound much more upset, but we were just as surprised. And the restaurant has apologized to us and explained it wouldn’t happen again. While this situation was unfortunate, it was a bit out of our control. And we didn’t exactly run from the situation, we immediately tried to work with the guide to figure out a creative solution which meant more food at the next several stops. Please note that these are not normal times for the restaurant industry. Many restaurants are hurting due to the pandemic, especially in Chinatown, and we are proud to help support them as best we can, despite the rare difficulties we encounter. Most of our guests understand this rare 100 year pandemic situation and are giving us a benefit of the doubt. It's not like we just ignored the situation which to us would actually warrant a 1 (or 0) star review. Once our guide alerted us to the situation, we let you know that we would activate a partial refund. But because you had reserved through TripAdvisor, and not through our discounted website, it would take a bit more time to get you the refund. But again, this is not because of us but because it takes longer going through a third party. Because of how upset this situation made you, we decided to contact the other people on the tour to apologize for the strange issue that had occurred on your tour but the rest of the group seemed to enjoy the experience even despite the issue at the front end of the tour. It was only the one vendor that was closed and not two as you mentioned in your review. And it shouldn't happen again, moving forward. But like i said before, these are strange times for the restaurant industry. And hopefully future guests will join almost all of our current guests in understanding these challenges and support us and the restaurants despite any unexpected issues. We are sorry that social distancing was not followed in at least one of the restaurants we visited. And future guests should know that there is at least one restaurant we visit on this tour that has smaller space which makes distancing a bit difficult. If that is of concern, we can get that meal to go and eat later or outside. While we haven't heard a lot in the way of complaints about the food itself, we will definitely monitor the feedback we receive to see if any changes need to be made to any restaurant stops. Because this tour has not run for over a year and a half, and because many restaurants in Chinatown have either closed, changed managers/owners, we are monitoring this closely. We wish you well, but hope you'll lighten up a bit on companies such as ours during this difficult time. Good luck to you.

Excellent tour
Oct 2019
I really enjoyed my tour of Chinatown. I ate foods that I typically would not have known to order. The Mongolian hot pot experience was fun, we got to cook our foods in a hot pot. WE had a lamb sandwich which was not typical and really good. There were 5 stops from foods from different regions. WE also were given a history lesson to accompany the foods we ate. Eric was very knowledgeable on the subject and willing to impart his knowledge. He was also open to questions and to give us suggestions for after. A must do in Chicago!

Waste of money
Oct 2019
We did a culinary bike tour with Bobby‘s which was great, so were expecting the same for the Chinatown tour. Unfortunately, it was not.

You pay a LOT of money and basically only walk from one restaurant to the next where you get sampling bites. The choice of restaurants they show is good, but our guide only shared very basic knowledge and was not too enthusiastic. I believe what could improve the tour would be stops at one of the food markets where they could explain some of the exotic produce and their use in Chinese cuisine to guests as well as maybe a visit to a local‘s house or a cooking class element.

For the moment, we would definitely not recommend the tour. Rather boring and very expensive if you look at the value you receive.

Great introduction to Chicago’s Chinatown!
Sep 2019 • Couples
This was an excellent way to sample a variety of delicious Chinese dishes in 5 different restaurants. Enjoyed walking and time to explore the area. Learning about the culture and historical context helped us to appreciate the tasty foods even more. Eric was a knowledgeable, considerate and funny guide. If you’ve wanted to go to Chinatown, but didn’t know where to begin, we’d recommend this tour!
