Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours
Stop: 4 hours - Admission included
Discover the spectacular La Plata Canyon (20 minutes West of Durango) and its beautiful U formation created by glaciers on one of our Colorado jeep tours. Several small waterfalls and cascading rivers follow the rugged jeep trails in the springtime along with lots of wildlife such as marmots, mule deer, elk herds, juncos, kingfishers, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and bald eagles. On our guided jeep tours you will see numerous wildflowers, high-alpine meadows, and avalanche gullies. Following the La Plata River (meaning “Silver” in Spanish) to La Plata City, an old mining town established in 1875, you’ll discover the remnants of old mining claims. These include a tall intact chimney left from the crew quarters, the framework of old cabins, and tailing piles from actual mining areas. Then, you’ll continue to the peak of Kennebec Pass at 12,000 feet above sea level (also above tree-line).

Our guide, Miles, did a fantastic job -- this early in the season, he was somewhat limited in where he could drive us, but he kept trying until we saw everything we wished to see. Beautiful scenery and wonderful historical perspective. Note: This tour actually left from Silverton.

It rained and was overcast on this tour. Most of our friends paid a booking fee to postpone but we decided to go. It was cold and wet but heavy coats were offered and helped. Tosh, our guide, was personable and knowledgeable about the history and plant life. Hence, the tour was great.
Our friends who went day’s later in better weather but with a different guide did not learn as much or have as good a time.

We had a blast on our Jeep tour! Daniel, our tour guide, was so funny and hilarious! He interacted with all the passengers and responded differently with each one. For example, my mom and sister and I were big jokers and Daniel was right there making us laugh. He also interacted with the other passengers and showed us what we asked for. He was familiar with the area, the wild plants, and the history of Durango. He was an amazing tour guide and really made the Jeep tour to the top of San Juan Mountains memorable! Thank you, Danny boy!

We scheduled a Mesa Verde Tour several weeks prior to our trip, and when we arrived to spend a few days in the area, we explored the Mesa Verde National Park on our own. We had assumed our scheduled tour was 'off the beaten path' by jeep, but when we arrived for the tour, it was a van that was scheduled to go to the same places we had already explored. The driver, Jay, was wonderful!! When he found out he would be taking us to the same places we had been, he quickly got on the phone and was able to switch us to a Jeep Tour in the La Plata Canyon that same afternoon. He even followed us to the pick up location, and waited with us until the jeep arrived. Thank you Jay, for helping to make sure we had a great afternoon with a different tour than what we had scheduled...we appreciate it!! When we took the tour, we had a great ride, and the driver (Cambell) was wonderful...he gave us lots of info about the history of the area, and pointed out lots of things along the way - what a great afternoon!!

We had such a great time on this tour with Tosh as our tour guide. Without him this would have simply been a bumpy ride up a trail with some great views. He made the trip fun, educational and exciting. His ability to share history as well as details on the trees, plants and wildlife was incredible. He was also funny and entertaining. I would highly recommend this as it has been one of our favorite outings during our week long vacation in Durango. The views at the top were so incredible and it was an unforgettable experience.

We had a great time as a family (kids ages 10 & 13) on the Jeep Tour. Our guide, Tosh, was extremely knowledgeable about the geography, history and plant life! There were several stops along the way to take pictures. It can get a bit dusty, so bring sunglasses to protect your eyes. Dress in layers, because it’s cooler up in the mountains. Tosh supplied blankets during the ride and was very attentive to everyone’s needs!

Hello, Our family had a once in a lifetime day with Jared as our guide:) Our first Jeep 4x4 trip - it definitely did not disappoint!! It rained a little earlier in the day, which made the foliage and flowers so colorful !We took the 1:45pm trip, a little chilly going up to 11,650ft The rain brightened up the Aspen, Pines, ground cover and many beautiful wildflowers. We saw lots of animals , learned about the many old silver mines and our 10yo twins had an awesome time!!Jared packed blankets, warmer blankets and cold bottled water. We were comfortable in the cooler temps up towards the top. Excellent driver as well . Our twins loved, loved, loved Jared and our adventure! A++ customer service!!
Highly recommend Jared for your Jeep adventure! He does tours from both Silverton and Durango !

We had an excellent tour riding the trail along the La Plata river from about 8,000' to 10,000'. We took the 9AM half-day tour and were very glad we did. The temps were chilly to start and our excellent guide, Jay, set us up with warm blankets and lots of great stories and facts about Durango. The fall scenery was gorgeous ... bright yellow Aspen, azure blue skies, green and blue spruce trees, ponderosa pine, and rushing river. The ride was not terribly bumpy and we felt completely safe and secure. It was not a thrill ride, nor was it meant to be. Just a great opportunity to be outside, enjoy the natural beauty, and learn a little bit from a guide that had lived and experienced Durango for most of his adult life.

I don’t typically write reviews, but this was such a great experience that I just had to take the time to sing the praises of Jay. He truly made our tour an unforgettable experience. We were immediately comfortable with him and it felt like we’d known him for years! We took the Jeep tour up into the La Plata canyon and Jay was a wealth of facts and awesomely “punny” jokes. We broke rocks and assayed them for gold and silver. My youngest daughter (Izzy grumpy bear) found a good one and gave Jay a chunk to keep for himself, which he loved. I feel like Jay was really able to read our family dynamic, which allowed us all to have fun and connect on a deeper level. With each other and with good old Mother Nature! We’ve done many tours in the past and this is easily the best we’ve done. If you’re planning a trip to Durango and you can appreciate all the glory nature has to offer, this tour should absolutely be on your must do list! Request Jay for an amazing and entertaining experience!

I took the afternoon jeep tour from Durango, and everything was great. I travel solo, and when booking, the staff helped me choose a date that already had a couple booked, so that my trip would be guaranteed to go. The office has abundant free parking, clean bathrooms, and 100% mask usage. Our guide was Miles, and he was excellent. He was personable, informative, and a great driver - he also gave me additional recommendations for hikes and restaurants in the area and was super patient at photo stops. Part of our group was late, and he still gave the full tour with zero problems. The jeep we took was on the newer side, very comfortable, and had a nice canvas top and working seat-belts. No complaints and would definitely use the company again to go rafting if I was in the area again (which I hope to be).
