Whale-Watching Cruise from Newport Beach

    What to Expect
Make your way to Newport Harbor for the departure of your whale-watching cruise down the coast of Orange County.

Board the 65-foot (20-meter) boat and meet your experienced captain and crew, all of whom have extensive backgrounds in marine biology. As the boat leaves the harbor, you'll learn about the different types of marine life that frequents the area and what to look for.

This year-round tour allows the opportunity to see different animals during different seasons. During the winter and spring months, watch for minke whales; one of the world's smallest, they only grow to about 23 feet (7 meters). Winter also brings the humpback whale, which can grow to an impressive 52 feet (16 meters). Both of these whales eat krill and are known to slap their tails on the surface of the water, or 'fluke'.

Blue whales, the largest mammals in existence today, usually grow to approximately 200 tons (180 metric tons) and 98 feet (30 meters) in length. Watch for these giants during the summer and fall months, in addition to grey whales and finback whales (the second-largest type of whale).

You'll also likely see dolphins, sea lions and seals on your trip. Feel free to ask any questions of your knowledgeable captain and crew regarding any of the animal life you encounter.

After 2.5 hours out on the Pacific, return to Newport Harbor.

The captain and the crew knew what to look for and knew how to make the excursion fun. The boat had great amenities as well! They offered snacks and drinks for purchase.

This is a great time if you love marine wildlife. I went on the cruise in early November and it wasn't quite whale season but you will have a good time regardless of the time of year. We chased down a pod of dolphins that were stampeding (yep, correct term.) Once we caught up to

Good cruise and value. Boat had a clean bathroom and a drink and snack bar inside. Only complaint is that they just usher everyone onto the boat with no direction. People were scrambling to find seating up front, on top, in the back... and there are no employees giving any

Since booking the cruise, we were told by locals that October is not a time to see whales. We did see plenty of dolphins which were great! When booking you may want to make sure it is the season to see the whales. It is understood there are no guarantees to see anything and

We went on 10am trip but had been warned it was still a bit early for the whales. We saw sea lions and a few pods of dolphins. Groupon made it unbelievably reasonable, given gas prices around here. 2 plus hour boat ride was a treat!
