Great tour in a short amount of time
Great tour if you only have a few hours in LA! We were able to see all of the major sights/landmarks we were looking forward to seeing (Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory). Rob was a great tour guide/driver, too!

Celebrity Homes Tour - just ok
This was ok, not brilliant just ok, but it could have been so much better. Obviously you’re not going to be going right up to the front door of homes but it would be more accurate to call it ‘Celebrity Homes Front Gates’ tour. The guide had a habit of pointing things out, either as you got there or in one case when you had just passed by, so it would be better if they said “coming up on your left in 30 seconds is …”. The view of the Hollywood sign is a 10 second stop peering through some trees. On the plus side it was good to see different areas of LA.

Such a fun way to see the city!
I'm a local and decided to join my visiting relatives on the tour, and it was really fun. Our tour guide was Alan, and he was the perfect kind of funny for this kind of thing. He was informative and a great driver, and kept us all engaged from beginning to end. If you're going in May just remember that it can be cold so make sure to bring a sweater, that way you can just kick back and enjoy the ride.

Our driver Alan was a wonderful tour guide! Driving through the LA traffic was safe, his jokes were fun, and the places were interesting.

        Choose a different tour operator
I was very exited at the thought of going on this tour, things did not start off well! Don’t be fooled on the booking site when it says ‘only 9 places left for this slot’. The van only took 8. The website states to get there 30 minutes early, they emailed me 8 minutes before my estimated arrival time to say they had delayed my ride. This is not acceptable when you have already parked in an extremely expensive car park. When I turned up at the kiosk my QR code on my phone wouldn’t scan so I was directed to ‘the boss’, the man sitting down in the black shirt. He definitely should not be working in tourism or customer service. He was the rudest most ignorant man I have come across. There is not enough salt and ketchup in LA for the size of the chip on his shoulder. On the actual tour, there wasn’t a great deal about current stars and where they live but we learned a lot about arboriculture and topiary! If you go on this tour be prepared to get cold. Also, I find the suggestion that the tour guides are underpaid and have to survive on their tips somewhat fanciful. The arrogance of the man suggesting how much I should tip him is beyond description. $10 per person by the way! Would I do this trip again….. No way!!!!

        Fantastic Trip.
What a fantastic tour. My sister in laws parents were visiting from Indiana and her uncle from Serbia. I did a lot of checking and emailed Starline. Gwen got back with me and helped do an Intenary for 5. We took the Amtrak from San Juan Capistrano to Union station. Starline even picked us up at Union Station. We spent 6 hrs with Ross. He was a great guide. Through Hollywood, Rodeo Drive. All the tourist things my family wanted to do. Lunch at Farmers Market. Etc. We went to the walk of fame by the Chinese theater. Starlines office is right there. We met Alex who is a boss for Starline. Nicest guy. They even took us back to Union station to catch the train home. If you don’t have to drive to LA/Hollywood, don’t do it. Haha. What we really appreciated was the customer service. Gwen followed up us until the day we arrived. Confirming if changes had to be made etc. My family wants to come back and do the beach tour with Starline. Again taking the train. I highly recommend this company. Especially if going with family, do the private tour. You conform your trip to exactly what you want to see. Thank you Gwen, Ross and Alex. The entire Starline group. You made the day and their trip the highlight. Until next time Lori

Wors tour on LA tourist trap
Worst service on LA this is a tourist trap. The brochure is designed so you think the bus will pick you at certain time but it’s not. My family were left behind at Sta Monica and the bus drivers were not helpful

        Not worth the money
I’ll start with the positives - it was a great way to see around LA when I only had 30 hours here, and the bus driver/tour guide was lovely, funny and enthusiastic. Now the negatives…. Your experience was heavily determined by where you sat on the bus, there’s a lot of things on both sides of the bus, but if it’s not your side, you can’t see it. In the description it said you’d stop for a great photo op at a Hollywood sign view point, when really he just pulled over on the side of a busy road, and as it wasn’t my side of the bus, I didn’t get to see or take pictures of it. It would be great if it was built in for stops to get out and take some pictures. Also, which I expected, you could only see maybe a fraction of a celebrity house or a part of the rooftop, or the gates. It was also more ‘Justin bieber once rented that place for a couple months’ or ‘that was J Los house 30 years ago’.

        Information needs to be updated
I have used this company in other cities around the world and have thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the information provided. Unfortunately, the Hollywood version lets the company down. Firstly though, it is a great way to cover a lot of distance in a city where you don’t have a car. That was the best thing about it. The pre-recorded information is not up to date. Eg. Showing us Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant that was actually closed down 2 years ago. Telling us about Shirley Temple and other very old stars that I have barely heard of, let alone my teenage son. How about talking about the latest reality stars and latest hot spots on Tik Tok. I would mean researching constantly and recording every 6 months, but it would make it so much more interesting! Also, when we transferred from one bus to the other, our driver told us the second bus would be there in 10 minutes. He didn’t turn up for 45 minutes. No place to shelter in the hot Sun. Overall, although we covered a lot of mileage, I thought the commentary could have been so much more interesting and up to date. Sadly I would not recommend this tour company to anyone.

        Great Way to Explore Hollywood
We booked the Red line for 1 day hop on-hop off bus and it is very convenient going Hollywood specially that is our first time. We booked the bus on Nov. 24 and there is no much people. We enjoyed the ride on top of the bus and the recorded information about every stop is very informative (although I'm not sure if it is updated). We spent just alight and go around Beverly Hills to Rodeo Rd. and come back on the said pick up to return to Dolby Theater.

Waited 1 hour for the bus to come in Santa Monica, altough we were told it would be 30 minutes. When the bus arrives, the driver was not very pleasant and we begin our tour, but nobody can hear the commentary thru the headphones. Turns out the driver forgot to turn on the audio for the first 15 minutes of the tour. By that time we were almost at our transfer point from the yellow bus to the red bus. Another wait, 30 minutes for the red bus to arrive to take us to West Hollywood, Sunset....he arrives, this time he is friendly and we are off only to turn around after 5 minutes and head to the meeting spot because someone was waiting to get on the bus. After this pickup fingers crossed we can begin this tour. The headphones and plug ins are spotty. I moved seats twice to hear the commentary. The bus itself is filthy, maybe try giving the windshield a wash occassionaly. The downstairs seating is useless as you cannot see out of the windows. The tour commentary often didn't line up with where the sites being described were. Finally we took a chance to get off the bus at the Chinese theatre and wait for another bus to complete the red line. Very odd that the bus just doesn't do a complete rotation. Anyway saw the last few stops jumped off at the whiskey a go go and opted to take an uber. I have done these tours in other cities, where the buses are frequent and there is no standing around. What a waste of money. Save yourself the pain. This is not a hop on hop off because it doesn't operate enough buses so once you hop off your hooped.

We were really disappointed with our experience with Starline. We booked tickets a week in advance of going and opted for a two day hop on hop off pass which covered three routes, Hollywood, Downtown and Santa Monica. The website did not suggest their tours were operating from a different timetable so having researched the timetable we decided this would work with our schedule. I printed out my email confirmation of the order and despite the driver converting this to QR tickets he insisted on taking my email copy. I asked for what purpose and he said I didn’t need it. I advised that it had my email address and name on it and that I don’t want these shared with just anyone. He said it was mandatory that he took it so I relented only to find the folded email on the bus the second day! I wish that was the only problem. We opted for the downtown route first and were provided with a printed timetable stating pick up and drop off times for February 2022. We had no reason to doubt the validity of this until we were waiting at a bus stop and the bus was 25mins late. We called the helpline who advised us they were running a reduced timetable! Would have be great if we had of been informed! We lost 2.5hrs as a result! The bus itself was a little cramped in some of the seats, mainly towards the back. The mic system was temperamental and I had to plug my headphones into the unit behind me on two occasions. The audio itself was awful, it was so out of sync that we missed major tourist stops because we had already passed them despite the automated guide saying ‘coming up on your left’ etc. Overall we spent a lot of money on a less than mediocre tour. Our friends travelled with Big Bus and had a very different experience, if I went again I’d book with Big Bus.

Went on the tour for one day thinking I could do it all but then in the middle of the day my cousin that lives here asked me to meet up with him and that ended up cutting my day short. I called Starline after asking if I can extend my ticket for a day because someone had told me it would be possible for 18$. The lady on the phone told me she didn’t have the access to extend my ticket, that only the bus driver would. I wasn’t able to get on the bus so I came today to the pick up spot to ask to extend my ticket. They extended it for free! Which was so nice of them!

We thought we booked the brown coloured bud and we’re really let down by star line. We arrived at stop 7 and driver was having his lunch and told us to leave and come back in 40 minutes, there was no where to wait or sit except on footpath. When we came back at the time I had to ask for wheelchair access which he ignored. He was rude and very abrupt and parked the ramp over the hedge. When I told him to move he yelled and moved the bus and let the ramp down on the road instead of sling the footpath. His manner was appalling and his treatment of people with Wheelchairs is disgraceful. When we wanted to get off a few stops later he put the ramp down on the road instead of over the footpath, do we couldn’t get out. He is in the wrong job for dealing with people and we were so upset by his behaviour we didn’t board the bus again.

Was left waiting for 30 minutes past the allotted time only for the late bus to stop for a brief moment before leaving without 4 people including myself. We were all briskly walking towards the bus who pulled up further than where we were standing. Due to an injured knee I am unable to run so was most disappointed when we had to wait another 30 for the next bus. Another company passed us multiple times while we were waiting . The tracker on the brochure also was not a tracker but instead just went to the website. Why the misleading information? Having a 48 hour ticket I was not willing to use this service on the second day. Most disappointed by this company.

Dreadful. It is not a hop on hop off, if you do you’ll miss the majority of the tour or worst miss the last bus back. You spend hours driving around listening to a prerecorded commentary on earphones about celebrity addictions, death and misdemeanours. The recording isn’t in sync so you miss the highlights. One good thing was we saw what a dump Hollywood is and glad we didn’t waste money in staying there. If there was a smaller more intimate tour I’m sure it would be better. I do have to shout out to the drivers, they made sure the connecting bus to Santa Monica waited for us, I’m sure they didn’t have to.

I think a lot of these reviews are way too harsh. It's a hop-on, hop-off bus tour in a busy city, set your expectations accordingly! In two days, we never experienced being lost or left behind. The drivers were always helpful, friendly and kind. This experience involves making a bit of a plan but that's what's required to get around as giant of a city as L.A. If you have a short amount of time this is a great way to hit all the spots without spending all your money on Ubers or parking.

In the end, I don't think we needed to buy the two days, one would've sufficed.

My biggest complaint is they have an office listing on Google Maps in Santa Monica, but it doesn't exist. They also have multiple websites with sometimes differing information about stops. I recommend calling if you're feeling unsure (they picked up right away).

If you're looking to relax, drive to Malibu for the day. But bus tour day will require a bit more energy, so plan accordingly. :)

My wife and I took the tour on October 2 and we’re passed by a tour bus and had to wait 45 minutes in the hot sun for the next bus. We’re both senior citizens and when I contacted the company I’ve basically been ignored. No customer service whatsoever!!

What an absolute waste of money!! We got on at stop 1 on the red line at the Dolby Theatre and transferred on to the yellow line at stop 7. By the time we got down to Venice Beach (TWO HOURS) we decided to never get back on the bus. We enjoyed the day down at Venice Beach / Santa Monica pier and then took an Uber back to the hotel.

The tour is very uninteresting, a lot of dead air, and as an added bonus we got moved from an open top bus on the red line, to a frosty closed top bus with static sound on the yellow line.

Save your money and go a different route!

(Side note) it would take you all day to ride the full red / yellow routes .. and that’s without getting off to actually see anything.
