Birds and more birds, love CR and how easy it is to find birds. our guide was very good and patient, happy to show us every single bird along the way

We booked a night walk with Drake Bay Birdwatching and Walter was our guide. There was a lot of back and forth via email with staff other than Walter. My questions were answered, however, I would recommend using WhatsApp. Walter got back to me promptly and answered my additional questions. He met us at our hotel which happened to be close to the area we explored. We saw a lot of creatures and Walter was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about showing us everything. The couple hour tour flew by and we saw some many things - click beetles, cockroaches, dink frogs, crayfish, a sleeping Jesus Christ lizard, mating frogs, red eye tree snake, cane toad, wolf spiders, crabs, army ants, moths, and more! My boys (16 and 18) said this was one of their favorite tours because of Walter's enthusiasm and what we saw. *He captured these amazing photos with my phone.*

An early start but well worth it. A beautiful trip which goes onto private land. It was so peaceful. Do bring water with you and wear good walking shoes. A trip with a lovely Guide that is very passionate about their work.

We met Elia at 6am for a bird watching tour around Drake Bay. I was blown away that we saw a whopping 53 species in 3 hours! The tour was an enjoyable and educational time. Elia knew a lot about the species and her passion was very clear. She taught us the kinds of trees that birds are often found in which we can use in the future. Overall thrilled with the experience!

From start to finish, pajareando with Walter was a delight. He worked with us by email and video call to plan our visit to Drake Bay for 5 people over 5 days. Even from afar we felt his boundless enthusiasm about the birds and other wonders he wanted to share with us. As we soon discovered, he also has encyclopedic knowledge of the local flora & fauna and unparalleled listening and spotting skills. We visited several sites in Corcovado and explored the Sierpe River and mangroves by boat and Drake Bay and environs by foot, including dawn and night walks. Walter is a patient and captivating teacher, gracious and most accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him!

Amazing birding with Walter! I am so glad that our group selected Walter as our guide for 4 days in the Osa. He is incredibly knowledgeable, able to identify massive varieties of birds by sound and by sight, and had such a wealth of information to share about every bird. He is also such a sensitive and caring guide, always ensuring that everyone in the group had a chance to see the bird/animal, so considerate of our needs throughout our days with him. His excitement and enthusiasm for the birds and the animals and the land is absolutely contagious! I highly recommend Walter for your birding/mangrove adventures in the magnificent Osa Peninsula!

My wife and I spent two days with Walter and enjoyed nothing short of a religious experience. His knowledge of Costa Rican ecosystems and particularly the birds he spotted for us, is fabulous. In six hours, he introduced us to 48 species of birds. His enthusiasm is second to none. We have traveled the world extensively and have guided tours throughout our travels. We've had good guides, mediocre guides and great guides. Walter is at the top of the list. Do not miss his expertise if you ha e the opportunity. He's one of a kind!!!!!

Walter met us at the specified time and place and we set out by foot. Almost immediately, we identified shore birds, soaring birds, and birds in the trees and brush. We walked to a special meadow where 3 species of humming birds were seen. Totaled too many birds to name here, but highlights were a pair of scarlet macaws, a pair of fiery billed aracaris, and the aforementioned hummers. Walter is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and he has excellent equipment. Unless you have terrific equipment of your own, he’ll have you covered.

Amazing birding and photography tour! After speaking with Walter about my interests, he planned a custom trip for me that included 2 tours through the Sierpe mangroves (one in the afternoon and 1 in the morning), a night walk in the rainforest, birding around my resort and in Drake Bay, and birding near Los Planes. He took care of all the details. His knowledge of the local birds and animals was fantastic--I saw almost 100 species of birds, and many species of reptiles, amphibians and more. He was mindful of my fear of spiders and always told me when he saw one so I could decide whether or not to take a closer look (yes to the tarantula and orb weaver, no to the banana spider). What's more, when I realized I had forgotten my camera battery charger and spare battery in San Jose, he contacted a transport company and arranged for them to bring the charger to me, which saved my trip. Cannot recommend highly enough!

I highly recommend Walter - he was a fantastic guide with a wealth of knowledge! Walter knows of all the birding hotspots and is very familiar with the area, so he knows when and where to be, making the most of your time out there. Walter went above and beyond to try to hit the birds on my “want” list and then even provided me with a list of locations to check out after the tour, in hopes of seeing some birds we didn’t see during the tour (and he was right about where to find them afterwards!). I can’t say enough about Walter, if you’re interested in birding- you won’t be disappointed here!

Where to start with Walter?! Truly a great man, who is really passionate about wildlife. He is an excellent guide. We spent a few hours with him in Drake Bay, and would have loved to have spent many more with him. His knowledge of wildlife is excellent, and he was one of the best guides we had in Costa Rica. He helped us spot so many birds, and could instantly recognise birds from their calls. It was truly a pleasure to meet Walter, and I hope our paths cross again one day. Walter is a very passionate guide. We did a one day tour in Corcovado, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Walter is a gracious, knowledgeable and talented guide. He was able to point out many species we never would have spotted on our own. He was patient with the entire group of 11, and always welcomed questions! Highly recommend!
