Overview
Experience Mendenhall Glacier by land and water on this 6.5-hour combo-adventure tour from Juneau. First, hop into a canoe at Mendenhall Lake and paddle around luminescent blue icebergs and past cliffs and waterfalls toward Mendenhall Glacier. Step onto the glacier and explore the area with trekking poles. No matter what level of paddling or glacial-trekking experience you have, a guide is there to prepare you for each step of the journey. Look for wildlife sightings and expect personalized attention on this small-group tour limited to 14 people.
What to Expect

Experience the magnificent Mendenhall Glacier and Lake from a series of unparalleled vantage points on Southeast Alaska’s singular multi-sport glacial adventure.

You’ll be picked up from downtown Juneau and transported 20 minutes and a world away, arriving at the edge of Mendenhall Lake- your paddling destination and only the first phase of exploration on this 6.5 hour, family-friendly adventure. After your gear outfitting, orientation and safety briefing, point the bow of your canoe toward the awe-inspiring glacier ahead and paddle with your informative guides on this silt-rich lake with glowing blue icebergs of all shapes and sizes and reflections of the grand peaks of the Coastal Mountain Range. Mendenhall Lake offers the unique experience of paddling near icebergs, arctic tern nesting cliffs, and giant waterfalls all en route to the terminus of the glacier. Don’t forget to look toward the shorelines, mountains and sky for possible wildlife sightings- mountain goats, black bear, porcupine, river otter, beaver, eagles, loons, and arctic terns all inhabit this area.

Upon reaching our beach landing point near the glacier’s edge, the adventure continues as your paddles are traded for backpacks and trekking poles. Leaving your sea legs behind, venture to the glacier’s edge and onto the ice, taking a journey through time as your expert guides share the natural history of the Mendenhall and help you to explore such accessible features such as crevasses, ice caves, moulins, melt water streams, pools, etc.

After your trek, return to your boats and paddle across the lake once more, allowing the visually stunning experience to wash over you before returning to the lake’s edge.

Adventurers of all experience levels are invited to join in on this excursion. The guides are happy to outfit and orient you to the paddle and glacier trek experience regardless of past paddling or trekking history. The entire family can join in on this multi-sport journey through an ecological timeline to experience the Mendenhall from land and water.

Ben and Madisyn are the BEST!

We went on our canoe and glacier trek with Ben and Madisyn as our guides and the day was fabulous. I highly recommend this trip if you are in Juneau! Sean, Dori and Lilly

Awesome Experience

Once in a lifetime chance to do something like this, guide was great, alot of fun -but does help to have some upper body strength. But the star was the glacier - it was an amazing experience and well worth the money.

It truly depends. I thought it was not bad but the trek up the ice was steep with the ice spikes and the pole they gave you. It’s ice so anything could happen even with your spikes so at least we had our protective... More

Any time it can happen that people are lazy to paddle... I’ve done paddling on my own :)) Maybe 11 am would be better choice, I went at 7 am
