About
Benefit from the insights of your guide on an evening walking tour of San Jose that highlights the capital’s city’s culinary delights. See cultural institutions including Morazán Park where we will learn post-colonial Costa Rican history. From there, our appreciation for San Jose’s historical architecture continues, with a walk by the Metallic Building, then on to Spain Park for a fantastic view of the Yellow House (now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Continue by car to charming Barrio Escalante, one of the oldest residential areas in San Jose where you finish the night with a 3-course meal and paired with wine or beer.

What to expect
  • Uncover secrets of daily life and folkloric legend in San Jose with this captivating evening tour. Connect with your guide at Morazán Park where we will learn post-colonial Costa Rican history. Your tour continues with a walk through San Jose’s historic streets to view architectural highlights in the glow of twilight. Stroll through Spain Park to view the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which boasts ties to Andrew Carnegie. You’ll also see the National Distillery and the striking metallic building at Morazán Park, constructed atop swamps in the 1800s. Finish your walk at a local artisan market inside the beautiful National Park, where you’ll have the opportunity to purchase handmade souvenirs. We’ll continue to charming Barrio Escalante, one of the oldest residential areas in San Jose. The "barrio" as locals call it, was first a coffee farm but by the 1950's became the favorite neighborhood for the economic and political elites of the time. Nowadays, Barrio Escalante has reinvented itself and is now home to many up and coming restaurants and at night is a favorite meeting spot for locals and visitors alike. The evening will end with a contemporary traditional meal at a hip local restaurant that is very popular with locals and offers a sampler of traditional Costa Rican pub fare. Between your tasty three-course meal, and wines that go down a treat, you’ll be ending the evening feeling every bit the San Jose local.

Great casual evening tour of San Jose
Excellent guides. Casual walking tour of San Jose. Interesting historical and political information. Plus a brewery and dinner. Great way to see the city and learn about Costa Rica.

Historical Walk and Good Eats
Aug 2021
It was only my friend and I who took this tour with our Guide, Gabo, and we absolutely loved it. Granted, it did rain through the later half of the tour, my friend and I were smart enough to bring our ponchos so it didn't deter us too much. Gabo was super kind and informative and we learned so much. Also, the dinner was amazing! If anything could be done to improve this tour, I would recommend it be advertised as a city history tour rather than a food tour, as we only truly ate a meal at the end. That being said, I still had an amazing time. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and bring a poncho just in case!

This was an amazing tour! I actually booked this tour on my birthday, and Jason (our fantastic tour guide) made it very special. Ironically, it was just Jason, my sister, and I, so it also wound up being personal. The tour included a lot of interesting facts and architecture, but what really tied it all together was Jason! He created a very engaging lesson about San Jose. Things that people wouldn’t necessarily care for, he’s able to hook you on! While he remained professional, he still kept it light hearted and fun. He even did us the courtesy of walking us back to our hotel so we didn’t have to get an Uber! By the time we ended the tour I was very well-versed in a city I had never been to before. I was even able to use some of the things that he taught us, outside of the tour. By far THE best tour guides there is.

Satisfied in San Jose
Jul 2021 • Solo
I had a great time learning the history of Costa Rica and walking around the city. Our guide was very knowledgeable of local lore as well which really makes the tour fun. He always made sure we were enjoying ourselves and went the extra mile. The food and drinks were great! I feel like I have a greater understanding of not only San Jose, but the rest of Costa Rica as well. I definitely recommend this tour.

Be prepared to walk a bit, but it never felt tiring and the food at the end made it all worth it. The information is extensive, but interesting and pertinent to the buildings around you on the tour.

Great tour guide, good tour, ok dinner
Jan 2021
The tour was very good but a little bit less than we were expecting. The tour guide was very good - the best weve had so far in Costa Rica. Very informative and catering to our group.

The biggest issue was at dinner it calls out 3 glasses of wine and yet when we got to the restaurant we were told it was 2 and those two glasses were pretty slighly poured so it added to about half of what was promised in the advert.

Normally, i would leave a harsh review at that but I know the industry is struggling and they are likely working with their partners to find ways to survive. I am hopeful of their efforts

Terrific knowledgeable guide, educational tour
Oct 2020
Eric was a terrific tour guide with so much knowledge about everything Costa Rica -- from history to culture to food to science to wildlife. We learned so much on this tour, including about many things that were not necessarily about the tour. We really appreciated that Eric showed us the city of San Jose, warts and all. Not just the tourist places, but the streets that everyday citizens walk down every day. It was a fascinating few hours and we learned so much. Plus, we ate some delicious food and drank some incredible coffee in a random, hole-in-the-wall place that we would have never found without Eric. It was really great all the way around. Eric is a terrific guy with a real feel for hospitality and the tourism industry.
