We had a great experience on this tour. Our guide was Andrew and he was very friendly and provided interesting facts about the wildlife we saw in the park. Although we could have walked the trail ourselves, we would not have seen most of the animals because they were so well hidden. Andrew did a great job at locating them, setting up the telescope so we could see them clearly, and taking pictures that would later be shared with the group.

The guided aspect of the tour took a little less than three hours. It was hot and humid, which is to be expected, but surprisingly not too many bugs. The trail was easy to navigate for most. A good chunk was paved, with some stairs, and the rest was dirt with gravel but was well maintained. It got a little hectic in some parts because there were several guides in the same spot with their respective groups…but our guide did a good job of mostly avoiding the traffic jams!

Also be sure to bring water in a reusable bottle because we had to leave our bottled water behind since they were plastic and non- reusable. I also recommend taking the early tour so that you have enough time to stay and hang out at the beach after. We did the afternoon tour and the beach was closing soon so we had to go to a beach outside the park.

Finally, we drove from San Jose and hit a lot of traffic and some accidents. We arrived 45 minutes after our estimated arrival time and 30 minutes after the designated meeting time. We were
very stressed but very grateful that Andrew waited for our arrival before starting the tour!

Edgar was a great tour guide and knew what sounds to listen out for and spot the wildlife. He took photos for us too and shared information about the types of wildlife that is out there and how to recognise them. The park does get busy on a Wednesday as it’s closed on Tuesday’s so bare this in mind when booking. The beaches you see at the end are STUNNING and I’d recommend wearing your swimsuits underneath as you’ll want to go for a swim and chill there and the toilets there are not pretty. It’s easy to walk back without your guide as it’s navigated well so you can decide to stay longer and not go back with your tour guide. You can’t take food in there but are allowed water. There are lockers to keep food if you have bought it with you and there is a shop before you go to the beach if you want to buy anything.

Our trip with Royvin Arce was fantastic! He was an excellent guide and spotting insects and animals that we could barely see with our naked eye. He even helped us take pictures of animals through his monocular scope and after the trip sent us even more pictures he had taken professionally which were beautiful. Once at the beach he gave everyone the option of staying at the beach, but arranging their own transportation back or staying for 15 minutes and then finishing with the tour. Many people decided to stay (it was beautiful), although I continued on with the rest of the tour. Would highly recommend this tour!

We paid almost $200 and informed Jade Tours ahead of time that we were not able to attend the tour. They refused to give a refund with an ahead notice for a service they did not provide at all. They also refused to even offer a partial tour or partial refund. Almost $200 given to them for a service that was not given to us.

Hello Sonia, You cancelled the tour a few hours prior the activity. When you book the tour you accept the cancelation policy, which is 24 hours before the tour starts with no refunds after that. Besides, we had completely everything arranged for your experience, and this has a high cost. Kind regards! Jade Tours

While our particular guide was nice and very knowledgeable, we didn’t find much to recommend about this experience.

The first hour or more is spent gathering 100s of people at the meeting point and collating into groups of 12 (and they had forgotten our hotel pick-up to start it all off). From there it is quite a process to get into the park, in part due to the disorganization of the tour company.

Inside the park you are bunched together with all of the other groups of 12 viewing animals through a telescope device (which actually worked quite well). The entire tour takes place on a gravel road and there is quite a bit of repetition and I sense they want to front end load the viewing of wildlife versus spreading the groups out and covering more ground.

The beverages and snacks mentioned on the Jade tours site as being included in this particular tour were not mentioned nor offered. We stayed in the park on our own for a few additional hours and enjoyed most this part of the day.

The one advantage of booking a group is they arrange park tickets but I’d not do it again this away give the price and experience we had.

Hello dear client, These holidays the park happens to be too busy. Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most popular parks for wildlife in the whole world. The line to enter the park gets very crowded because the park rangers need to check everyone's bag in order to avoid people entering with not allowed items, such as knifes, guns or food. This is the reason of why we take some time before entering, although this is out of our control and there is no way at all to skip the line, either for "Private VIP Tours" (everyone makes the line to enter the park). The snacks and drinks offered in our operation are provided outside the park, because it is not allowed to serve them inside. Since you decided to stay inside the park for the rest of the day to swim. Then, we didn't have the chance to give you this part. Also, I want to clarify that your group wasn't 12 people. Your tour group was 10 people. The park administration does not allow the guides to have more than 10 people because of the COVID protocol. As for the arrangement of the tour groups it was only about 15 minutes, since we need to make sure that the tours get people in one single language. As also separating small groups having children from adults. We try to do as much as possible in order to create the best of your experience. There are so many details to take care on, exactly to make the experience as perfect as possible. Manuel Antonio Park happens to be this busy pretty much only for these holidays. Then, the rest of the year is very easy and smooth. Hope you can visit us during any other time of the year rather than these busy days. Kind regarsd! Mario Brenes

There were throngs of people. We chose not to hire a guide, which was probably a mistake because we did not see much wildlife, except for some monkeys. However, the guided tours were generally 4 hours, and that seemed too long. We also went on the afternoon and were later told it's better to go early morning for the best chance to see the animals. The beach accessible from the park is very pretty. It was empty in the afternoon. You must buy tickets in advance online to enter the park at a specific window of time. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this park.

I’ve booked and prepaid for 7 of us a tour in a group of maximum 10 people as it is written in the Jade Tour website. They merged 13 people in one group and the result was that the group was too big and not everybody could listen the guide and the guide could not listen anyone’s question. Despite our complain, they tried to convice us they were right. I also wrote to them, but they did not answer at all.
Bad people. Bad company. Much better to stay away from Jade Tours.

My wife and 3 kids (4, 4 and 9 years old) had a guided Manuel Antonio Park tour with Edgar. To put it shortly, he was excellent! Not only was he extremely knowledgeable of the ecosystem and wildlife at the park, but he was able to keep our 4 year old twins engaged for the full 2.5 or so hours we were there. That’s an incredible feat on its own! We loved Edgar so much that we ended up requesting him to be our guide for the Mangrove tour.

Highly recommend the Manuel Antonio park tour in general, and if you’re able to request Edgar as your guide, it’ll be that much better!

Phenomenal tour guides - Luis Roberto and Kandy - made this visit so memorable. Without their knowledge, we would not have seen as much as we did. The park is beautiful but understanding the natural wildlife with a guide and to see through their scopes the animals at a distance is worth every penny. Our entire family from 7 years old to 75 years old enjoyed this trip very much. Bring your bug spray!

Do NOT book this trip!! I originally booked this trip for my wife and I, as it’s our first time to Costa Rica and we heard so many great things about Manuel Antonio. Our guide Carla was incredible, very knowledgeable and informative. She was the best part of the trip! Unfortunately, when we were picked up at the hotel, the tour company combined our tour with a white water rafting tour, which was fine until we finished our tour and went back to the restaurant and had to wait almost 2-HOURS until the other tour was finished and they came back to the restaurant and finished lunch. If I knew I was going to wait so long, I would have NEVER booked this trip. DON’T DO IT!!!

THIS REVIEW IS POSTED IN THE WRONG LOCATION. We have requested Trip Advisor to move your review to the correct location. You did this tour with TUCANES TOURS. Carla is a tour guide that works for Tucanes Tours. On the other hand, Tucanes Tours is the only tour operator which combines the Park Tour with Rafting. We don't even operate the rafting tour our self. Its a shame that Trip Advisor doesn't care about the control of where people write their comments. Kind regards! Jade Tours Team
