Overview
Dive into the heart of Old Delhi on this 3-hour tour of the capital’s historic center. Hop on a rickshaw for a thrilling ride around the maze-like streets and alleys, and marvel over landmarks like the mighty Red Fort and Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. Stroll through the colorful Khari Baoli spice market; take a peek inside a Sikh temple and a communal kitchen; and stop for tea in the bustling Kinari Bazaar. This small-group tour has a maximum of six participants, ensuring an intimate local experience.
What to Expect
Meet at Connaught Place to begin your 3-hour evening tour of Old Delhi, also known as Shahjahanabad, built in 1639 as the capital of the Mughal Empire. Begin to experience life in the ‘walled city’ on a rickshaw ride along streets that overflow with bustling markets and historical sites.

Explore several markets including Khari Baoli, Asia’s largest wholesale spice market and one of New Delhi’s busiest spots. Sniff your way around different stalls as you learn how the chilies and spices commonly used in Indian cuisine were originally brought to the country by invaders. In addition to bowls heaped with colorful spices, you’ll find different types of dried fruits for sale.

Historical discoveries continue as you pass several imposing architectural wonders constructed at the height of the Mugal Empire in the mid-17th century. Marvel at the impressive mile-long (2 km) sandstone walls of Red Fort that extend through Old Delhi.

After a brisk walk through the Kinari Bazaar, stop for a cup of tea or a cool beverage before you continue to gurdwara Sis Ganj. The gurdwara, a shrine described as a ‘gateway to the guru,’ commemorates the ninth Sikh guru, who was beheaded in the late 17th century for his beliefs. It continues to be a place of worship for local Sikhs, and your guide explains Sikhism on the ride back past the mosque of Jama Masjid. Finally, arrive at a communal kitchen where locals come to eat for free.

Please note that this is a sample itinerary. The order in which you visit the sites can change.
