      Real Manila
The way to "Local Grandma's" is a world apart but just a stone's throw away from the gleaming order of BGC: it's a gentle community, very safe indeed, of low-rise houses, side streets, street vendors, small firms, lots of foliage. And the welcome when you get there is exquisite, so warm and friendly! We sat and had a cooling drink of cucumber, ginger & lime and chatted for a while before lunch was served, which began with mixed fried vegetables, pakora style, followed by a delicious 'pinakbet' course - again a variety of mixed vegetables - eggplant, beans, bitter gourd, etc - and a third course of 'bistek Tagalog', a sumptuous traditional beef dish done to perfection. All through the meal Grandma told stories of the old days when the district was mostly fields and meadows and the US helicopters would fly overhead approaching the air base. We finished with dessert and sweets and never got to the end of the stories. Wonderful experience, authentic, heart-warming, and memorable. For tourists/visitors who want a proper experience of real Manila, and real Philippine cuisine, this is the way to go.

Awesome Filipino feast with the sweetest "Lola" in Taguig!
The food was to die for - real homestyle cooking. Our host was super welcoming and knew everything about the dishes. It felt like joining a family lunch. If you want authentic Filipino eats and great company, don't miss this. Best cultural experience ever!

      Beauty of Filipino Culinary traditions
Rating 5/5 Stars The other day we enjoyed a fantastic lunch at a private home in a charming, humble neighborhood. Even though it's far from the typical tourist areas it is located only a few minutes drive from Makati. The atmosphere created by the host, a charming Grandmother who greeted us with a smile, was warm and inviting. We started with Filipino Fritters and a yummy local soup called Misua. The main courses were traditional Filipino specialties like mixed vegetables in coconut milk, beef steak, and marinated milkfish. Each dish was prepared with authentic, traditional flavors and techniques - creating a celebration of Filipino culture and hospitality. I highly recommend the experience to anyone who wants to enjoy an authentic Filipino meal in a local home.

      Traditional Filipino Food Feast
I just had a great dining experience when I joined the Traditional Filipino Food Feast with a Lola (grandmother). Mrs. Soliven welcomed us to her ancestral home that is located in a neighborhood surrounded by families with intertwined stories. She served appetizer, soup, vegetable, fish, beef and dessert. These were the dishes her mother lovingly served to her as a little girl - and which she prepared with the same love to her own children. The experience was not just all about food but also about the stories that came with it.

      Big appetite in Chinatown
Great tour guide, Jian, to take me through the hidden gems of Chinatown. Was very knowledgeable and knew how to relate to me. Didn't make me feel rushed on the tour and encouraged me to give everything a try. He was very personable and had a relationship with the people working at the establishments. Very happy with experience and would recommend to others. Even helped me pin the pick up location for my GRAB transport. Thanks Jian. -Corey

Best food tour we have been on, and we have been on many.
My husband and I spent a wonderful morning with Jian sampling some of the tastiest foods in Chinatown. He was very knowledgeaable in Filippino history and Chinese culture, sharing it with us between courses while our food settled and prepared for the next culinary adventure. Best food tour we have been on, and we have been on many.

      Traditional Filipino Food Feast
The feast was an absolute delight! The variety of dishes provided was healthy, nutritious, satisfying, and incredibly delicious. From appetizers to desserts, each dish was meticulously prepared and presented. The experience was especially enjoyable because it was explained in detail how the dishes were cooked and which enhancements were used to tweek the flavors. The refreshing cucumber juice really hit the spot on a hot day. The spicy Bicol express had a crunchy texture and a creamy consistency, which made me eat more. The fried milk fish was delicious and I really enjoyed the mixed veggies. Overall I liked the casual but attentive ambiance, the very good food, the interesting stories and the charming host. ,Highly Recommended!

      Food and Stories
Every person in the world enjoys good food and a good conversation, especially with friends and family. But to have the same sensation in front of a total stranger was new to me. I just experienced the Traditional Filipino Food Feast with a Mrs. Soliven or 'Aunt Oyet' as she asked me to call her,. Along with plates full of stories she served delicious fritters, soup, veggies, fish and beef. Every dish on table stimulated the tongue and the heart. Mrs Soliven did not serve alcoholic beverages but it did not matter to me because the entire experience was intoxicating.

This was a fantastic cooking class! Chyl was very friendly and helpful, and showed us how to make some lovely dishes which we'll definitely try out at home! Bonus points for the two very lovely kitties who kept us company while we cooked.

We enjoyed the tour with our excellent guide Chloe. Everything was well organised, Chloe was at the meeting point on time and took us to various examples of Philippine cooking, including small shops and street vendors. She was also very friendly and informative regarding any questions we had on Philippine food and also on Manila in general. We also had the opportunity to try riding in the motorcycle sidecar (short distance) and one of the buses (jeepney). Overall it was a great way to understand and sample some Philippine food and learn more about the city. Think the tour took around 3 hours total and by the end we were very well fed - we would recommend making sure that you are hungry at the start!

One of our travel group's favorite traditions is to book a food tour on our first night in a new location. This allows us to learn about the traditional food options that we might otherwise never try, and we usually find a favorite item or restaurant that we return to later. Needless to say, our street food tour with Explore Manila Tours was the perfect start to our vacation in the Philippines! We started with some delicious pork and shrimp siomai (dumplings) and gualaman drink, ventured on to a food stand to try a variety of grilled meats, sampled some some traditional Filipino desserts made with cassava, enjoyed a variety of fried food options, and tried two of the local Filipino beers... And that's not even everything! Our tour guide, Chloe, was so kind, informative, and easy to talk to. Not only did she teach us about the food we were eating on the tour, she gave us recommendations for other restaurants and dishes to try, answered many of our questions about the languages of the Philippines, told us about the city of Manila, and so much more. I would highly recommend checking out this food tour while visiting Manila. Just make sure you come with a big appetite and a willingness to try new things! Be prepared to spend about 3 hours on the tour and wear comfortable shoes for walking. Reserve your spot today - you won't be disappointed!

This tour is a perfect blend of different types of Filipino food and highlights some of the classic dishes. Jian is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic foodie. We sampled numerous and abundant local food at small stands and eateries we would not have discovered ourselves. We tasted a broad range a food from siumai, to a variety of grilled food on sticks, sisig, desserts and more. I highly recommend this food tour if you want to experience local flavors from a very personable guide.

This was a fantastic tour! Jian, the guide, was such a good host, balancing a fact and fun-filled street food tour of Manila.
There was an enormous amount of food available, so highly recommend skipping lunch prior to the tour. The food was an array of delicacies, which may be uncommon to many non-Filipinos, but was delicious. I recommend going on this tour with an open mind. Giving everything a go will enhance your experience.
I think that the tour I went on was made even better by having a bunch of others on the tour (our was 12 people)! Cultural experiences are made even better when you have the opportunity to share them with others.

We both really enjoyed this tour, Jian was an amazing tour guide with loads of knowledge, interesting facts (all new to us) and a great selection / variety of foods and drinks to try! We loved how he encouraged us to dig in and really challenge ourselves to explore more and experience the culture through the food we tried, we definitely don’t regret any of it. We are proud to say we did try everything and there wasn’t anything we hated, it’s a great tour and really helped our introduction to the country in our first week being here. We feel like we can go anywhere now on our travels here and enjoy the food we tried on this tour, Jian was great and has been a massive help with more advice for us on our further travels. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone in Manila!
